Title: New heavy duty clutch
Post by: richardmid1 on April 20, 2016, 08:05:13 AM
Did I see something about a new heavy duty clutch for the N7 or did I imagine it?  :-\

What makes it better than the stock clutch?

Everything is bigger :)

25% increase in bell size, clutch shoe contact area, weight of the shoes, etc. it will engage and hold the torque of modern 700 class nitro motors and offer increases life of the lining.

the first immediate thing you will notice is a smoother idle, and also a smoother engagement as you spool up. I was extremely impressed with the engagement at first, then I started flying the absolute crap out of it, and I cant seem to make it slip at all, period, none.....(not that I had a problem with the original one, bc I didn't, but this one is beefy!)

its great. IMO the liners are easier to install also. I have to look back at my notes, I think the gap is a tiny bit bigger due to the larger clutch. maybe 15 thou. total gap. what I am getting at is I did not have to break in the new liner, it idled perfectly without any areas needing to be sanded down or the head held and broken in. very nice.

Just wondering. Would that clutch+bell  be overkill for the N5c

Charles.. I was thinking the same thing!

it wont fit the n5c IIRC. the bell is too large, it would hit the frames on the front.

the bell is so large, when you slide it through the frames of the N7, you only have .5-1mm of clearance on either side (when installing). after its installed though its not between the frames.

also, the extra weight of the clutch assembly would probably be too much for the .55 to handle properly. that is why the n5c clutch is milled out, and not a solid chunk like the n7 clutch, to remove weight to help the motor recover quicker.

Give me a call when you need your ADSB solution for that bad boy 😎. Also when you are ready for GO GO, I bet I can beat anyone's prices. Plan on training Eldred on avionics next, let him take the helm and I retire. 😬

are the recent kits coming with this set up or is it still an upgrade?

It's far from a required part so it will remain an optional upgrade. I ran the stock clutch for 4 years, never an issue.  The larger clutch is recommended for the new Tareq motors and the OS105 pumped.

Thanks,

Hmmm, didn't realize this.  I thought the latest round of kits included the heavy duty clutch and bell.

The upgraded parts aren’t in the manual, so I guess they aren’t in the kit either.

Is it just the clutch (200-503) and bell (200-504) that are required? Or do we need to get the pinion as well?

EDIT: Looks like the bell assy has the pinion installed already.

Clutch and Bell only
The Pinion comes attached to the new Bell so no need to remove from the stock clutch.
