Title: Securing Wires on Nitro Heli
Post by: Ranger_06 on June 26, 2017, 10:55:58 AM
I read somewhere that you shouldn't zip tie wires on a nitro heli without first placing something between the wires and zip tie to prevent zip tie from chaffing wires. I can't seem to find where I read this, and can't seem to find anything about it on the web/forums.   I am familiar with electrics but, this is my first nitro.   Thoughts or advise on the subject?????  If this is covered somewhere on the forum please point me in the right direction.
Thanks,
Russ

I use plastic spiral wrap on my N5 wiring. Keeps everything nice and tidy. Don't forget to lock the servo connectors to the FBL port with Goop or some kind of tape (3m, etc.).

On my helis I usually use a piece of fuel tubing around the wires where I use cable ties.

Thanks for the feedback friends!  I've hot glued the leads down and have plenty of fuel tubing remaining to use on the wires.

I use Velcro thin ties. Cut to trim any size bundle of wire. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170627/f134d08d6775b896d7ca1cdd969297b4.jpg)

Zip ties are ok.  I've never had them cut the wires.  But where I can I put a small velcro strap on the wire before putting on a zip tie.  Plus it kinda looks cooler.

On nitros do worry about wires touching edges of the frame.  Carbon is conductive and it cuts wires, not a good combo.  I put some two sided tape on the edge anywhere that it will touch.

Also on the N5c put some fuel tubing where your battery straps go around the frame.  I know a guy that had a rekit due to the frame cutting his velcro strap around the battery.  Usually batteries work better when they stay attached to the air frame.

I will generally use a small piece of heat shrink or looming tape around the wires prior to using a zip tie, they can be used without but I have seen instances where the edge of the zip tie has rubbed through the wires damaging them so it is best practice and I would recommend using some form of barrier between the zip tie and the wires.

Hope this helps,
Kind regards,
Ross
