I am wanting to get into larger Helis and I want to know what you guys are using on your bigger N5 and N9 size Helis. I know Matt flies Futaba and Rob tells me that is the best so I have been looking at an 8FG. What do you guys think?

I fly the DX8. I personally love the radio inside and out. However, I believe both radios are a very good choice. For me personally, I find the DX8 menus and interface much more intuitive and easy to read. It just makes sense. However PLENTY of other people do fly Futaba and love theirs as much. Sadly, it comes down to preference. Both are really good.

If at all possible, try to get with some people at a fun fly or local field and see A.) What they are flying and/or B.) Just check out both types of radio. In particular, it is much easier to have several guys flying the radio you choose for direct support although the internet helps a lot. If you cannot find both radios in person, just do as much research online.

Sadly you will see a lot of debate between the two radios but I don't care what people say. There are potential issues with both units. Again, in short, both radios are a good choice and you should try to play with each to see which one you prefer.

Thanks for the quick answers, I will probably go with the 8FG because Matt, Caleb and Rob fly at the field I go to and I could ask them any questions.

I was the first to fly a 8FG at our club. Other seemed to like, some started to buy the 8FG we are now buddy boxing and now more and more people are also getting the 8FG. I've owned 4 transmitters since I've been in this hobby and the 8FG is by far the one I like best and I think it gives you the most bang for your buck.

ok so I will be the odd ball...

I fly a Jr 11x.   I have flown futaba Spektrum and now JR.  Best thing to do is look at whats out there and go to your local hobby shop and actually try them out.  See what feels best in your hands and then go from there...

One thing I would say is to spend the extra coin and get one that you can grow into.   Best of luck...

JR9503 here but not particularly by choice.  I would actually prefer to fly the 8FG but unfortunately it doesn't feel right for me as a "pinch" flier.  I flew Jamie's most of the day a couple weeks ago and came to the conclusion the only way I could do it would be to remove the back switches on both side.  I still might one day but for now the 9503 does the job.  Just goes to show that no matter how good a radio is in features it needs to feel right in your hands too.

JR 9503 here  ;). I love the ease of programming and the feel of it in my hands.  If I upgrade I would like the 11X or I hear a 12X coming up.  8)

Hi,

My first PCM radio was a Futaba 8UAP. I now have a Futaba 10CHG for my helis. It is very easy to use and program. Bang for buck the 8FG, 10CHG would be good or the Spektrum DX8.

Cheers

They all do the job just fine.   Like someone else said try them out and get what feels best.    You'll learn how to program whatever that is.   I prefer the programing of the JR/Spektrum stuff with the scroll lock.  Love the feel of the 11X, but sold it quick because of the polarized screen.    So far the DX8 has been awesome and the 4000mah Lipo pack goes months between charges.
