Charge Station
« on: January 01, 2013, 01:50:36 AM »
I finally finished my charging station (thanks to colder weather  :( )! All of the equipment is mounted in a Pelican case (model 1510).  When the lid is closed the case is completely airtight and waterproof.

(2) I Charger 3010s, Mean Well power supply (SE-1000-24), 24V, 41.7A continuous, 1000W  , Power distribution block, (2) 80mm 110V cooling fans.  The top and bottom decks are made of solid Wenge (Millettia Laurentii).

You can check out the photos below, click on them to enlarge.   ;D

Looks Great Rich,

I'm waiting for the new FBL Electron Power Station, It looks sick!! Shouldn't be much longer till they are done. The Art work itself is worth it to me..  Yours looks great !!!  ready for a new year and commited to flying more.

Thanks guys.  I have been using it all summer with just the bottom finished.  I didn't want to give up any flying time to complete the top.  With the arrival of winter weather I have time to finish some projects.  I would rather be flying!

Nice setup Rich. Is that a meanwell power supply? Are you using a generator to power the setup?

Scotty, thanks.  Yes it's a Meanwell 24V 42A.  We have AC power at my home flying site but I have connected to a generator on a couple of occasions.

Wow nice work. I've made a similar charging case but your workmanship and layout puts mine to shame!

Very nice indeed! So you can hook it to a generator? 20 amps @ 110? Will a 2000 watt gen run it or do you need more?

A quality 2000 watt generator will work fine.  I think Matt is using a 3000 watt Honda.

Meanwell have a good efficiency rating and active power factor correction. These are both important when using a generator instead of mains power.

I believe the unit I am running is 88% in the efficiency department.  The mean time between failure is over 251 thousand hours, it is also capable of operating on voltages ranging from 90V to 264V.  I'm very happy with the power supply, I hooked it up to an oscilloscope the output voltage is very clean.  I know that a bunch of folks are using server power supplies and saving some serious money but, I like the fact that I didn't have to mod anything or connect two power supplies together to get 24V.  The power supply is lightweight and runs cool even under heavy loads.
