Rail 556, missing something?
« on: January 06, 2016, 02:27:42 PM »
Just received a set of 556 Main Blades from Helidirect.

Do these normally come with the thin washers or shims that go between the blades and the grips?

I notice the package has a place for them but they were included with the package?

Was this an omission or is the package generic where they might have come with different size blades?

Target Heli is a Diabolo 550.

I do not believe the Rail 556's I purchased a few years go came with those shims.  I guess it would be helpful to learn what the part number is for those shims and where to purchase them.

I'm going through the same issue also.  Ordered some Rail 556's from Heli-Direct right after Christmas.  Got the blades and wondered why no shims when opening them.  At the time I was thinking of the thin black kind so figured it was no big deal.  So I go to mount the blades and see they need a thick washer, I figured they came in the E5 kit.  I tore the house apart looking for those freaking washers that in the end never existed.

I posted in the E5 forum and another member help me out.  I guess the 1mm x 22mm shims are supposed to come with the blades.  It would be nice if you could just buy them from Synergy but as far as I can tell you can't.

The Rail shims for 556 and 606 blades have dimensions 4 x 22 x 1mm.  I have never been able to find a Synergy part number for them.  Not to worry.  The Radix spacers for 600mm blades have the same 4 x 22 x 1mm dimension.  Ron only has 7 in stock.  I am not able to find them in stock anywhere else.  I assume that's because Curtis stopped making/distributing blades.  Once Ron runs out of these shims, your other option is to purchase directly from Curtis.

BTW, I don't like the stock Synergy tail blade spacers.  The outer diameter is only 9mm for the 106-804 and 10mm for the 305-312.  The OD is too small for the blade grips.  These Synergy spacers sit inside the curved aspect of the Synergy blade grips, so they can damage the blade grips other time.

These are other spacers I tested.  Their OD are larger than the stock Synergy spacers, so they overlap the tail blade grips.

The synergy blade grips need about 2.8mm worth of spacers for the Synergy tail blades.  I am not able to find 1.4mm thick spacers.  I am using a combination of white POM EDN-1159 and either the Compass 10-5006 nylon spacers (which I prefer) or the SAB H0078-S metal spacers.

This is my E7SE tail.  I'm using the white POM EDN-1159 and SAB H0078-S spacers on it.  The SAB spacers are only 12mm OD, so they barely clear the blade grips.

I don't have issue with the stock tail blade washers.. Seem fine to me on my birds. I have a set of 556s at home for a repair job I'm doin this weekend.. I'll look to see if the washers are in them.. Seems like that always have before.. I'll get back with u guys on it.
