806 LOW ROTOR SPEED BUILD QUESTIONS - BEST SETUP???
« on: June 02, 2016, 10:55:34 PM »
I am building an 806 with the following components:
806 blades and 116 tail blades and 806 boom , etc.
Motor= X-NOVA  4530- 9D-450KV-10P
Speed control=  Hobbywing 160 amp HV Platinum Pro V4
Cyclic  Servos = BK DS- 7002HV
Tail Servo = BK DS- 7006HV
Tail Drive gear= SYN-766-625H - 25 tooth pinion Tail Speedup gear
Motor pinion 12 tooth instead of the stock 13 tooth
Planning on using 14s batteries instead of 12s
What main rotor speeds can I expect to achieve? [/i][/i]
I am not a 3d flyer just a sport flyer.
I am trying to increase total flight time per charge.
Any leads on where to purchase 7s batteries and a suitable charger/ power supply for charging 12S to 14S batteries?
Should I stay with 12s and use the 13 tooth pinion  or stay with 14s and the 12 tooth ?
Will an IKON flybarless unit be okay as well ???
Please give me your opinions  and comments.

Hello!

That's going to be a sweet Heli!

My 806 is setup similar. I have the scorpion 4530-450 and scorpion 14s esc.  Also running a 12t pinion.

My head speeds are 1660/1750/1800. On 14s 5000s i can get 7 minutes easy with smooth sport flying. At 1660 it's a ton of fun! Plenty of collective pop!

I am running an iCharger 308DUO and can handle 12 and 14s no problem!

The iKon will do great.  No worries there!

Looking forward to seeing photos!

Chris, are you flying on a timer or do you have a mah counter?

I'm planning on the same things, close to the same setup, except I went with a Hobbywing 200A, as it was the same price and I was told in the 800 config, it's a little tail heavy so I went with a little heavier speed controller to try to help offset that.  I'm not set on headspeed yet, but was thinking around 1450 or so.  I get 9-11 minutes on my E7SE at 1650 with 716s, so just trying to compare with 806s.

Chris
Thanks for the positive feedback on the configuration that I have.
1800 rpm is more than than what I would be flying.

Is it better to use two 7s  packs wired in series or is it possible to purchase assembled 14s packs? Which do you feel is the best way to go?
I see Heli Direct has some 14s 500 mah packs, I just don't know how to charge the multiple packs?? I am new to these high voltage setups, any help is greatly appreciated.

Timer, just adjusted until I found a happy medium. My timer is at 7 minutes. That way if I flip into IDLE3 and fly harder I don't over discharge.

I HIGHLY recommend stick packs.  The cables are setup just the same as two separate packs so you charge them like any other 7s battery. But you don't have to worry about fishing wires through the frames.  The battery tray really does work better with sticks.

I run the 14s 5000mAh Pulse Ultra Sticks from HeliDirect in mine.

I chose to go with the 2 lipos and make my own stick pack, due to the extra weight.  I was told the 800 needs a little more weight up front to balance out.  That's what I was told by a Synergy team member.

I have 2 4010 duo's, and I made my own balance boards, that include the plug for a 7 cell lipo.  I know you can buy some balance boards now that include a 7 cell balance port on it.  I couldn't find any at the time I made my case.

To charge, depends on your setup.  I don't parallel charge, so I can monitor all the cells in my packs.  That's my choice.  I have parallel charged before though.  What do you have for a charger?

The 14s 5000s are plenty. I am running a BEC not an RX pack and I still have zero issues with CoG.  I have a good 2 inches I could go forward in the nose if I had to.

But CoG is effected by more than just packs, servos, motor, esc, it all adds up.

To all replied
Thanks for all the useful information on the battery packs.
I have a couple of Pulse 4500 6s 65C packs that I currently use for my 500 sport heli.
So, I could use these to setup the bird until I get some 7s packs purchased / setup and a 7S capable charger system.

Chris (or anybody that has input)
I just crashed my 766 and am now thinking of rebuilding it as an 806....I already have several 12s stick packs...do I need to go to 14s with the 806 configuration?

Thx everybody!
James

It will fly on 12s no problem.  I only went 14s to get longer flight times.

Great!!! Thank you so much!...One more question...would it be a good idea to throw a fourth bearing on the torque tube in the 806 configuration?

Three is plenty. But if you have a fourth go for it. Shouldn't hurt anything.
