Slight wag on my E5 in a hover...
« on: January 05, 2017, 01:05:53 PM »
I have a slight wag on my E5 in a hover.  FBL is CGY750
I'm assuming the slight slop shown in the video is the cause.

I ordered the new slider, 200-411, but I think I might need to replace the Tail Bell Crank as well.
Does anybody know the part number for the Tail Bell crank, its not listed in the manual?

I looked at getting FBL Rotors aluminium version but he is out of stock.

115-316 for the bell crank. I may have an FBL one. Will check when I get home.

That "slop" is within normal limits.  A new tail slider and/or bell crank will not make a difference.  Look for another source to explain the tail wag.

Awesome Alan, thanks.  BTW I was just getting ready to order Fusuno canopies of your Raygen design... still my favorite look, so visible no matter what sky!!

Really??  Are you sure?
I don't have any slop at all in my old Furion 6.
The tail performs well in my usual, sports style, flying. Just a slight occasional wag in a hover.

You're probably right, but seeing as I already received the new slider so I'll install it and see if it makes any difference.

Thanks for your input

Be sure you size the tail pitch links.  That has been something I see that frequently causes a tail wag.

alan is correct, if they are new links, not sizing them properly will cause this. if they are not new though and you have been flying it a while like this and you didn't have a wag, then your servo may be having issues.

all synergys have that slop there. it doesn't affect performance.

I did not have that wag before with the FBL unit I had before  the Futaba CGY750.
However... on the first CGY750 flight the helicopter crashed at takeoff (wrong compensation direction).
So I must have some vibration issue even though I replaced all damaged parts.

Maybe I'll switch to yet another FBL unit that can help me with vibration analysis...  :-(

Did not have a FBL rotors bell crank. Check ALL shafts from head to tail.
Let us know what you end up finding.

Cheers

Thanks Alan I will do that.

Also, @curmudgeon, it appears that you are correct in your assement, after speaking with many pilots much more experienced than myself in problem diagnostics, such as yourself obviously, it appear that the slop I find is most likely not the cause for my slow wag.

I will do as Alan suggests and check all shafts to see if I can isolate the problem.
Thank you all for your suggestions.

I have a similar wag at low head speed on my e6 with CGY750 and I don't have tail slop. It's oy at low headspeed so I just ignore it.

I see this all the time, the cause is usually tight linkage, thrust bearings, or servo performance. What servo are you using for the tail?

Hi Matt,
I am currently using the Align DS-650 servo on the tail.
As for the linkages being tight, I did run your sizer tool through all of them and they do seem pretty good to me but I might have a little conservative for fear of overdoing it.
For the thrust bearing, you are speaking of the tail grips... maybe I should just change those out, is there a way to check them?
Thanks for your input Matt, very much appreciated.

pull on the grips while twisting feeling for any irregularities in the movement. Disconnect tail rod control linkage 1st though.
