Flight times for Scorpion 4035 560KV
« on: July 09, 2017, 09:56:32 PM »
I have decided to stretch my E5 to run a 626/106 combo. I am going to run the 12 tooth pinion and the 4.5 tail ratio with 12s 3300s. Before I was getting four min with the 1100 6S setup at 2400, so what  flight times can I expect with a 4035 and 626 combo running a 2200 headspeed?

Thanks,
Dave

I ran that exact setup at 2150 rpm and I was getting 4.5 minutes easy. But I'm not a hard 3D flyer.

Couldn't say on 12s.. but 606mains on 6s only gets me 3min.. 3 & a half if I take it easy.

Thanks Chris, I am hoping that by using the 12tooth pinion it will gain me some time. My goal was to try to get to the 5-5.5 minute mark. I am not super hardcore smack, more big air type stuff. I have read that that motor is not the most effiecent. I may also consider the XNova 4030-530 if I am not happy. I only like to take the batteries down to the 25-30% mark. With the 2400RPM/6 cell 5000mah/550 Rail combo I was landing at 25% left after 4 minutes.

My E5s setup is the same as your planned one, except I'm using 96 rail tails which work great. AND its running the 13T pinion which has me geared for 2400 rpm according to mr mel.
Batts are 3300 45c gensace.
I mostly fly it at 2200rpm no hard 3D just loops, rolls, funnels and a few practice tic tocs. I get 5.50 mins and land with 28-30% in the packs.

Wolf51, that is the exact setup I plan on running but with a 12tooth i should be able to max out my HS at 2300ish. Any idea what your all up weight is? I was hoping to keep it under 9 lbs.

The only accurate scales I have won't cover the all up weight.
But weighing under each skid separately then adding pack weight I come up with 9.2lbs total.
Its a great setup, as everyone who has one will tell you.
Power to spare, stable, snappy and do anything you want.

Rest of my setup is BK7001s on cyclic and Futaba BLS276SV on tail, with a Castle Edge 120 HV ESC,  Gryphon quasar bec and scorpion backup guard. Mini Vbar and futaba R7003SB receiver.

Took my E5s to my local PO for a weigh in. Scales say 9.4lbs ready to fly.

I honestly think that big air is more power hungry than standard 3D, now I dint fly hard 3D, so can't comment.

It's all about how collective hungry you are.  If you're doing full collective loops and hurricanes and funnels nonstop then sure big air can pull a lot of power. But if you're doing circuits and smooth transitions and pots and around like I do then big air can be very power conservative.

Thanks guys for all the input. I just got my batteries today and I had to give it a try this evening. First I will say that i did love my E5 in the 6 cell configuration, it was my favorite all around machine. But only getting 4 min flight times at 2400, and it always felt a little heavy for the blades in the air and needed to run atleast 2300 for it to not feel sluggish.  I have an E7SE with a Scorp 4530 540 and that is a real power beast, but a little intimidating to try new stuff with due to the size and cost.

With that said the E5 626 12S is by far the best combo for my style I have flown to date. It seems to have all the flight performance of the E7, but without the intimidation factor. I wanted to take it a bit easy on the packs for the 1st flight but that lasted about 10 seconds as i couldn't contain myself. Threw everything I could at it at 2260 head speed for 5 min and still landed with 30% left in the packs! I was trying GensAce 60C 3300s for the 1st time so I only bought one set to try them out before I committed to more, (I normally fly Thunderpower). I was really happy with them, they held their voltage really well for the duration of the flight with minimal ripple.  I think i am going to buy a few more sets and this will continue be my primary heli.

If anyone is on the fence about the conversion, just do it! The E5 is a great 12 cell 626!
