balancing and dial indicating
« on: October 12, 2017, 06:20:32 PM »
Is balancing and dial indicating the fan on the N7 necessary?  Just wondering if I need to get the tools(tru-spin prop balancer and dial indicator from harbor freight).

It's probably worth picking up a dial indicator as it can be used for checking so many things over your time in the hobby.  Certainly useful for making sure your fan hub is as true to the motor shaft as possible which can minimize vibrations through the machine.  I personally don't worry about balancing the fan, but others may.

I balance the fan/hub as an assy. and dial indicate the clutch shoe. It may seem like there is no play with the way the bolts are lay'd out for the shoe but believe me there is play there which is enough for vibes at 17,000 rpm.
