516 carbon fibre boom
« on: February 02, 2018, 05:24:32 AM »
hi,

is anyone using the CF boom option on their 516?
What difference has it made to COG and has it altered the feel of the heli much at all?

cheers

It also reduces the momentum on the rudder axis, so you will likely need to reduce tail gain to compensate... The tail control loop doesn't need to work as aggressively to control the rudder axis.

I built mine from the get go with the carbon boom so couldn't tell you the difference.  But I was able to play with 3600mah, 4500mah, 5000mah packs without CG issues.  Damn thing is fast lol

After many flights this passed weekend, the carbon gets a thumb up, I'm using pulse 4100 hole closest to the front and the cg is just about perfect. MY set up is scorpion motor, talon 90, bk servos all around. Rail blades. And looks cool too.

I have about 10 flights on the 516 with cf boom fitted.  Very happy with it.

COG is perfect with battery lock in 3rd hole!
Thats with gensace 4400 65c lipo, xnova 4020-1350 and hobbywing 120 platinum esc.
Canopy hooks up clean and easy with battery in place. All up flying weight in this config is 2860g.
The 516 is a great performer out of the box  but piro stops and elevator response are a little sharper with the lighter boom.

Its definitely a worthwhile upgrade for me, and it does look cool!

I'm running a lighter pack  4100, pulse,  1st hole cg is perfect, with carbon boom. Wish they come out with one for the 766

A cf boom would sure make a difference on the 766. Same tube diameter as the 516 just cut them longer

I'd be surprised if Matt hasn't considered the idea of a cf boom for the 766 at some stage.
Would be interesting to hear from him about its suitability or potential issues, but he may be busy with the 556.
