hey guys just looking for suggestions and tips.  The N5 I bought used has only one issue where when I go to start it, the clutch slips sometimes and other times it grabs.  Some have said to check the 2 clutch hold down bolts for being too tight - I guess they should only be snugged (with lock-tite).  Can that cause the issue?  Anything else that I can look at?  I will pull it apart next week.  Do you have to oil anything when you put it together?  If so how much and where?  :)

Thanks for any advice....

Is the clutch slipping in flight? I think you mean the one way bearing? You may want to pull the clutch and spray some wd-40 into the bearing to clean it out. Then lube with light oil. Also inspect the start shaft and make sure it is ok and not damaged.

No slipping in flight..once running all is normal.

Ok 10-4.  Looking at the manual, the engine, fan assembly and clutch all come out together after removing the fan shroud correct?

Correct! Pull the top clutch bell bearing block out first. Then remove the engine, fan and clutch.

Good advice from Alan, definitely flush the one way bearing in the clutch assembly with WD40 and re-lube with a light oil such as Tri-Flow.

Well...took it apart and found the problem!  About 2/3rd's of the hollow end of the starter shaft had broken off.  Everything else looks good including the clutch, bell and the bearings etc.  The one way bearing looks perfect too.  Not sure why that would have cracked off...maybe from a previous crash?

In any case I am glad I ordered a new starter shaft last week as a preventive action.  Hopefully get it early this week. :)

Per my other post, all fixed up and ready to rock.  Easy heli to work on and the parts service from Matt and Amy is excellent!

All I have left is a little fine tuning on the motor but I will do that this weekend and get a lot of flights in 8)
