Nick, This is what I do to reshape the canopy.  Install the canopy with no shims.  Cut 4 pieces of corrugated cardboard into small squares place them between the canopy and the main gear two on each side.  Using a heat gun heat the canopy in the areas where the smooth bends are  on the sides of the nose back to the area where the canopy crosses the main gear.  You must use caution and not not allow the canopy to become overly hot in any one area, keep the heat gun moving don't create hot spots by stopping.  If you overheat the canopy you risk burning the paint or causing bubbles.  Do one side then move to the other.  Allow the card board to remain between the main gear and the canopy until it cools completely.  After the canopy cools completely check the fit and repeat if necessary.  I usually have to repeat this process about three times to get the correct fit.  If after a couple of tries you are not seeing results add another piece of cardboard to increase the space between the canopy and main gear and repeat the process.  Again you must be careful not to overheat the canopy, doing so will damage the finish.

10mm either side, I would say you have the canopy standoffs mixed up, it should be short ones on the front and long on the rear.

It does sound like you have the canopy standoff's mixed up, check that you have the short ones to the front and the long ones to the rear.

Hope this helps,
