Canopies
« on: August 23, 2013, 01:49:29 PM »
Hey ya'll.  Just bought a used N5 to help me get back in this hobby (been away for more than a year).  I am looking at aftermarket canopies and find that most companies have listings for N5's and separate listings for N5c's.  I know the canopies are different in shape between the N5 and the N5c, but can they physically be interchanged between the two framesets (i.e. - will an N5 canopy fit on an N5c frame set, and vice versa)?  Thanks in advance!

I know you can use an N5 on an N5C.  You may need some spacers and move some canopy mounts. The N5C on the N5 might be a challenge since the n5 frame is wider that the N5C.
Darren posted in this regard somewhere recently. Don't remember where.
Maybe he will see the and comment.

Yes, the canopies can be swapped with some mounting post changes.  The frame widths are the same.

To use a N5c canopy on a N5, careful layout and drilling of new frame holes is required.  The aft posts need to move 17mm forward and the front mount needs to be replaced with 610-423 mounts.  I have a set of old N5 frames already modified for a N5c canopy I'll gladly give you if interested.  I used an N5c frame as a template for drilling.  Without this, it would be difficult to locate the front posts correctly.

To use a N5 canopy on a N5c, all the holes needed are already drilled.  Just move the rear posts 17mm aft to the other set of frame holes and replace front posts with a 110-420 front mount, which bolts to the 610-312 frame connector block.

My bad. I thought the frames we just a bit narrower. Thanks Darren.
