Title: What speed controler for E6/E7
Post by: Kevin Dalrymple on October 03, 2011, 08:06:59 PM
What speed controler do you guys recomend in an E6 and a E7? Do i need to run a 160HV for a 12S E7? or can i get away with a 120HV? Thanks Kevin

Depends on your flying style but most people will get away with a 120HV.

Some are even using 80HV and working fine.

I would at a minimum use 120HV

I'm using the 80Hv on my E7 and it's working great but I need to send it in because it on the recall list and will try to upgrade to the 120HV. My graphs are around 40-60amps with some spikes but everything stays cool. I think the 120 is good match for both E6/7.

I am using a Jive 80HV and having good results! It is rated for up to 12s, but if you do go this low for an esc I recommend running a slave wire from your esc to the rx so you do not overload the master wire running to the rx. I will be replacing the 80 with an ICE2 120HV as soon as I can get my hands on one.

I am using the Hacker x-80. Brandon is using this as well on a 10s set-up and it appears to be holding up just fine.

Hey Kevin

So how many flights do you have on the Hacker/Jeti esc?

How is the Gov?

I'm thinking of picking up a combo with the Hacker motor and Hacker/Jeti esc. Not much info out their on the Hacker/Jeti esc's.

Thanks, George

I'll be using either a Kontronik HeliJive 120+HV or a YGE 160+HV with V-Bar governor, whichever arrives first. The HeliJives are on hold at Kontronik (firmware was recently fixed and it's in testing) The YGE is on the way from Germany. If both take too long, the fallback is a Kontronik PowerJive 120+HV (using its governor), which is currently on another heli.

I've been trying to find out if the Hacker/Jeti esc's will work with the Vbar gov. If not I will still probably give the esc a try with it's gov.

I might go with another CGY750 and not the Vbar. Still undecided

George,

Mine will be here Tomorrow. If you want good feedback, ask Brandon Wheaton, He is flying this combination and is having really good luck with it. I figured why not go that route. I will go with CC when I build the "7". But get with Brandon.

Cheers,
Kevin

The Hacker x-80 has been doing a great job. I have been impressed with the governor. The down side of this ESC is its only good up to 10s. This week I would be getting my new 65c lipo's and really see what it can do. Matt said there is a little more motor noise with the X-80 over the Castle. I would say the noise is about the same as I was getting with my Jive 80hv. You will need to get the program link for the Hacker ESC its only $14. The other thing I like about this ESC is there is nice + and - points to where I was able to solder the BEC.

Thanks for the responce Branden.

So far it's looking good. and hopefully within the next week or 2 I will have a E6/7 on the way.. Setup as a E7. Depending on how the E7 is I might be picking up another kit for an E6.

Thanks again.

Looking at the MasterSpin 120hv series for the E7. If I like it I might try the MasterSpin 99 which is good up to 12s. Not sure yet.

I have the new Castle Creations ICE2 HV120 on my E7 at the moment in E6 configuration and it is working flawlessly, it really is an excellent ESC which is easy to setup with the castle link software. I am going to run in E6 configuration for a while and then get an alternative motor and convert it over to E7 configuration.

I too am not seeing amps draws above 80 consistent, but I still decided to keep my CC ICE2 120HV.  AS my skills improve, I don't want to have any doubt my motor won't exceed my ESC.

Yes I usually use C.C. esc's as well or a Kontronic but I thought I'd try something new.

I might just stick with a castle.

kontronik Jive 120HV here, very nice governor and built-in bec. Worry free flying.

+1 on the Jives. Worry free is the key term for me. But the great gov, auto timing, 2-minute "programming," and 15-amp BEC is the icing on the cake.

Now only if those HeliJives would hurry up and get back on the market...
