Tail and main blade combinations?
« on: November 01, 2011, 08:03:54 PM »
I'm planning on getting an E7 in the near future and I like being able to switch between low and high headspeeds.  And by low, I mean like 1700-1800 range, 1650 if I can get away with it.  I saw Matt's tips and tricks suggestion of using larger tail blades when running lower headspeeds.  So with that said, has anyone run 115s or 120s?  Has anyone run 115s or 120s with 710s or 720s?

Hard to judge from pictures, but for those who have an E7 and can see the clearance between the blades, do you think someone could get away with 710s and 120s?

read "what tails are you using", a much earlier post, may help clarify tail blade sizes.  there is another on head speed to.  seems the E7 doesn't much like anything below 1900 and the E6 2000.  I am just quoting others rather than speaking from experience in head speed matters.  Not finished the build of my E7 yet!

kind regards
Andy

Tail and main blade combinations?

To save a buck I was going to run 102mm KBDD extreme tails but the root was too big. Ended up with rail 106 tails. Sick looking and very stable. I have rail 696 mains as well.

QuantumPSI-

I like lower headspeeds as well and found that 690s with 105s didn't have the tail authority I needed when turning 1900 on the head. I (we) tried all different settings both mechanically and electronically with no luck. Yesterday I tried the 110mm tails and it made a huge difference. I think you could get away with 115mm tails, but that might only be with 690s.

I have dual speed set ups on my machines and with the little Logo 500 I run somewhere around 1650~1700 on the low setting. The tail would surely blow out if I tried high load maneuvers, but that is only really used for slow rolls and flips.

Last thing- be careful of running both long mains and long tails. Not inherent to the E6/E7, but any machine that you run lower than normal headspeed you risk the blades "teetering" more than at normal head speed and can get into the tail blades easier.
