Title: Head dampener preload
Post by: rotorhead51 on January 02, 2017, 11:19:35 AM
New to the N5C, first build.
one thing I noticed from putting together the head is that I don't have enough preload on the dampeners.
the main spindle moves up and down a little with just one washer on each side.
Question I have is, other than adding another washer to increase preload, has any one had success with Ralph's FBL progressive head dampening system on the N5C?
thinking of going one green inside and two blue outer.
Be great to hear everyone's experience with these and how you set it up.

There are 2 different size head shims that come with the kit. First try the larger set. I cannot remember off the top of my head what exact size they are. Maybe .75 and 1mm?

I personally didn't like the progressive dampening they Ralph did. That o rings are too thin. The new one on the 766 is perfect because the size of the dampeners. I really like that one. I have worn or the o rings in Ralph's in less than 50 flights (that's no exaggeration).

If the second set of shims doesn't help,  then post back up and we can try one more thing. You may have to message me on here though, sometimes I can't get on here every day anymore.

Don't preload anymore than 1mm, instead.... wrap the dampers with two layers of scotch tape. Works like a charm.
