N5C/ OS55- new build
The front of the fan shroud is sitting about 1/2mm higher than the back which is causing it to rub on the clutch bell. The carb is very close if not touching the fan shroud- possibly holding it up. I'm planning to relieve it a little hoping it might help, but doubtful since the front mounting bolts are in. Has anyone else ran into this? If so what is the cause and the solution?

No doubt that its a tight fit in there. I did find that I had to trim the fan shroud a bit to get it to clear the carb intake. Do this first and then see if it fits properly.
If not take a look and engine alignment. The clutch stack is probably tilted a little toward the tail. This would look like the shroud is up higher in the rear.
Let us know if this helps

It actually was a combination of 3 things done incorrectly and 1 modification.
1. The fan shroud did need a little trimming at the carb opening.
2. The engine/ clutch stack was tilted a little.
3. I didn't squeeze the starter coupler and start shaft together before tightening the grub screw.
4. The real head slapper.... I didn't put the engine shims in correctly.
It's all sorted now and looking like it should.
On another note- I'm enjoying this build about as much as my Kasama. Very high quality parts and excellent fit (if done right!).

I'm itching to get it done and go flying, but it's a little chilly up here in Minnesota. Forget dumb thumbs- now its numb thumbs! Hopefully we will get a break in the winter weather sometime in March. 8)
