Futaba GPS Sensor 18MZ/14SG
« on: August 13, 2014, 04:28:33 AM »
Anyone use the Futaba GPS sensor with a HV setup? Operating voltage of this SBS-01G GPS sensor is shown as DC 3.7V ~ 7.4V in the manual. I was planning to use it in my E7SE where the ESC BEC is supplying 8.4V to the flybarless controller and the 7008SB receiver. I suppose the receiver will be supplying 8.4V to the SBS-01G as well. Has anyone tried this? Thanks.

Can you explain where you mounted it? Does it work fine when mount below the main rotor or did you run it back to the tail?

I have tried it mounted in two place. First was mounted to the back corner of the top bearing block near the elevator servo so it would be in clear line of site of the sky, out of the canopy. Second I moved to rear Boom block tray next to the FBL unit when I converted to speed canopy. Works great, still reads full signal in the TX and measurements didn't change.

Thank for the info. I was trying to figure out where to mount the gps sensor. In the instructions it says to mount it where there is no wind ?

I have had zero problems with it mounted near the fbl unit. Can't speak for the accuracy I've never measured and then got a speed time as well but signal strength is good.
