Hi guys, i was wandering if people could share some engine stories about what you feel is the best motor and pipe set up for the N5C. I have been running the OS LTD edition and am fairly happy with it. I was think about try the YS60SR with the Hatori pipe for a little bit extra torque.
Any thoughts.

I would take a guess and say most people are running the O.S. 55 and most of those people are running the HZ-R. I am running the non regulated version myself.
A very popular pipe to run with the 55 is the Funtech B320. The engine runs well with it and tunes well with it.
However since I recently put a small dent in mine I've been looking to replace it and can't seem to find one in stock anywhere so I have ordered the Hatori SAB-55 designed by Matt Botos and Todd Bennett. I'm pretty excited to see how it performs. It's designed to work with both the O.S. 55 or the Y.S. 56 so it should be a great choice as well for either application.

I am running the OS55 HZ-R, and like the SB-1 on it. Was running the B320 before that.

I have the OS 55HZ-R with the Hatori SAB-55 Matt Botos pipe. Love it!

I am biased as a YS pilot, but I will try to give an honest observation.
I had the YS60SR in my N5C and my good friend had the OS55HZ-R. We both have the corresponding Hatori muffler, both running Cool Power 30%, same Rail blades, etc.
Mine at break-in settings ran at least one, if not two minutes longer than his with the OS. After two gallons I flew a normal flight with flips, rolls, funnels, etc and it was over 8 minutes long! My buddy is around 5 to 5:30min on his OS.
Power is great on both models, but even if I didn't fly for YS, I would choose it simply because of the incredible fuel economy.
-
Ryan, what headspeed were you and your friend running? I get 7+ minutes with my 55HZ at 2050 flying pretty aggressively.
-
I run 2000/2150 IDLE1/2 and I land at 6 minutes with fuel left. Now that I have a better clunk I will probably try and push to 7 minutes.
-
Yea, I use every drop. :)
-
2100 on both machines. 7 minutes is great!!! Must check his system...

+1 on the SAB-1 Hatori pipe and OS 55HZ-R

For the guys who have flown the B320 and the SB-1 what is the difference in power and torque? Is the mid or high range different, or the power band? Thanks Kevin
-
Cheers, guys.
I have come to a point where i am bogging my OS55HZR in inverted knife edge circuits, in normal tick toks its handling that fine.
I have tried different fuels and tuning positions and even put a new ring to try and get more.
I may consider the YS option.
P.S i have both pipes previously mentioned in the post.

I have not changed needle settings since switching from B320 to SB-1
With B320 I could get it to sag at certain times, with SB-1 it will not. I have my running fat compared to others, and flying aggressive at 2100 I'm on the ground around 5:30-40
It would be sweet to get 8 minutes though :)

Hi everyone, i thought i would offer some important feedback regarding my OS-boost pipe combo. I ended up changing to the hatori and will some finer tuning i have ad some marvellous results. I found the transition from the high to mid needles to be more responsive without any bog. I have also changed the fuel from a local supplier to Rotor Rage and this has also help with increased performance.
Thanks for the previous feedback.

Hey Jeff,
I have the same motor combo you do with the Limited Edition but I also have an OS55 with Hatori pipe and I feel that there is a definate improvement with the Hatori and easier to tune, I find anyway. I also find that if I have not flown the nitro for a while it is easy to get a little heavy handed on the sticks after flying the electrics for a while. It is easy to bog the nitro! Long gone are the days of electrics not having the power of nitros. Although in saying that some of the bigger nitros have tons of power.
Just for interest I get round 7 mins fly time at 2150rpm. I am lucky enough to have supplier to get nitro, meth and oil from to mix my own fuel. Works out much cheaper than pre mix.

Agreed, i am looking forward to flying it harder with the improved performance of the heli.

I may be a little late on this, but for anyone new maybe reading this post an OS 55hz-r is an amazing engine with the OS pipe, these are very forgiving on the tune, and easy to tune as well.. a YS 60 if you are brand new to nitro makes insane power yes, BUT is probably not the best idea. The YS60 engine from my experience can be tricky to tune and is easy to put a hole in the piston.... trust me I know .. again if your new try an OS they make great power if your a non hardcore pilot you do not even need the hz-R just a 55 and fly forever :) good luck!

When I dinged my N5C last week I damaged the pipe (fun tech). Probably could have saved it but I bought a hatori during the Memorial Day sales. Amazing I didn't damaged the os55hz!
Should have mine back together this weekend. Can't wait to see how the Hatori performs.

Hi all..
I have a brand new O.S. 50SX-H Ringed Hyper Engine(no Pipe Yet) saved for 2 years, i want to do something with this motor. I was wondering if that would be strong enough to fly around the N5c or it would bog to much for Some mild 3d, sport flights , i want to try out nitro looks like i may be able to get more flight time.
From what I've read, the 55 doesn't make much more power than the 50 so it should be just fine.
-
On the original N5, it was a bit too heavy for the 50 and you really needed the 55. The N5c is so nice and light it won't have an issue with the 50. Give it a whirl.

Alan, which Hatori pipe did you get? I am running the SAB-1 which has been great.
