Weather is starting to warm up. and a engine question
« on: April 04, 2013, 02:50:05 AM »
Hello, everyone.
Well, I finally got out and put about 1 gallon through the n5c. Finally got the gov to work right with some help from friend. I have been on a sabbatical from helis ever since I got hit by one. But now that everything is working better and correct. IM BACK. The itch has returned. YEAH ME!!
N5C running 55hz, powerboost2, 30% RotorRage, Futaba cgy750 all Futaba BLS servos.
Couple of ?'s. I know that most of you are running 2050-2150 in IU2, however it seems that my engine is outside the powerband. This is the same on my buddies n5c. It really likes 1900-1950 to remain smooth through all maneuvers. Even 2000 seems to bog the motor. No hardcore 3d, but very graceful aerobatics with some mild mannered 3d. So here is the setup. Gear ratio 8.5, GV gain 32%. Pitch +12/-12 linear, it is needled correctly, not too lean, not too rich. It all works well under 2000 headspeed. So is there another setting in the cgy im missing? This also holds true on my friends machine. Our setups are almost identical with exception of blades and gov sensors. Setups are good, no problems there. v1.3 on cgy750
practical rpm 17000 rpm max.  So EngineSpeed/GearRatio=HeadSpeed (17000/8.5=2000)
So I'm guessing the powerband should be somewhere around 98% of max, so 16660ish/8.5=1950-60 which is just about where i am at. So, most people, like I said are 2050-2150, im curious what others have experienced.

I run the GY701 governor and run 2000 max in IU2 and 1900 in IU1. Same kind of flying if not less aerobatics than you and I wouldn't want it any other way.
