Synergy Helicopters

            Iam  getting my E5 Helicopter this Monday 8/11 2014!Ralph of FBL Rotors Unlimited really hooked me up with this helicopter-So a big thanks to Ralph.Got the FBL parts like the Upgraded tail , the turnbuckle set for the head,the  E5 helicopter kit,and some other parts and electronics.Now two questions- What tail servo and what mah capacity should I get for this helicopter!   8)

Congrats and welcome to the Synergy family!

Are you going to run it as a 550 or stretch it?  6S or 12S?  Last one... How are you going to power your servos?

  Rodney-Iam going to run this heli as a 550,it is a 6S setup ,and I'am going to run  a separate CC bec to power the servos.  This also reminds me to ask what 2S battery mah rating do I need for the BEC? 8)

Just wire your bec into the battery lead for your esc.  Otherwise a 2 cell lipo 2100mah setup will work.  Eliminate the bec and go 2 cell LiFe..  With my 12 cell  I am wired into my esc battery lead for my wr super bec pro.  6 cell 5000mah flight packs work well according to Mr. Botos when asked questions before ordering mine.

Servos:  Two main options to consider; standard voltage vs. High Voltage, and Coreless vs Brushless.  Also consider whether you are OK with needing shims; MKS servos are awesome, but they may require shims for installation on the E5.

BEC:  If you are powering the servos off a BEC, try to stay away from servos that are known to be inefficient.

Main Packs:  Although the inner frame dimension is large enough to accommodate larger 5000mah and even larger packs, there is a weight penalty when using those larger packs.  If you already have those larger packs, then use them.  However, if you are in the market for new LiPo's, the smaller and lighter 4400-4500mah are worth considering.

                    I have not got the batteries yet but based on what Curmudgeon said I'am leaning toward 4500 battery to power the motor.Servo type  I have not decided on.I have not purchased the BEC yet.I'am running a Vbar Silverline and Iam getting a 120amp Castle Creation ESC.Iam still considering my options on electronics I have not purchased yet.Looking forward to what you guys have to say-Chris Blom 8)

     Hi Chris , you're gonna love the E5! On the 6s 550 set up I went with the TP 4400 G8s and also used the Pulse Ultra 4100 packs over a 5000 pack.  Don't get me wrong it still flew great on 5000's but it felt to me a little soft with the 556 blades, the smaller packs felt like to gave the RAIL 556 blades more bite. Plus I was still getting 4:30 a flight on the 4400's at 2450 RPM, I wasn't going to get much more flight time with the bigger pack.

     I used the CC BEC Pro wired into the ESC connector. I really have come to trust CC BEC Pro and stopped using a separate Rx pack. On the E7SE I ran the Scorpion Back-Up guard and to be 100% honest I forgot to turn it on most of the time and the CC BEC Pro did its job perfectly!

I'm a little late but welcome and congrats on the E5! I run mine as a 550 on 6S and personally I wouldn't have it any other way even though the stretch options are great. I like the simplicity of a single 6S pack. Power is more than enough for my flying.

Hi Chris,

Congratulations on getting your E5 and welcome to the Synergy family.  :)

I run my E5 as a 550 class 6S machine and it's awesome! Great fun! I run mine with a scorpion HKIII4025-1100 KV motor and a CC ICE120HV ESC, I also run a Gryphon Quasar HV BEC wired directly into the ESC to power my electronics but I do also run a Scorpion back-up guard for safety and peace of mind. I also use a Optipower Ultra guard on my E7Se which is a smart guard and self activates, self charges and will also able to be put into storage mode if it's not going to be used for a period of time.

With regards to flight battery capacity, I use a mix of Optipower Ultra 4300mah 6S packs and GensAce 4400 6S 60C packs. The GensAce are slightly lighter than the Optipowers but still balances the heli perfectly.

On the machine I run a reserved setup with Futaba BLS451's on the Cyclic and a Futaba BLS251 on the tail.

Hey Chris,
Welcome to the Synergy Family. On my E5 I run the same setup . Scorpion 1100kv motor , 6s packs ( most of my packs are 5000mah and work fine). I love the E5 for ease of mobility. It fits a lot of places that most my other helis don't.Also its much easier to hook up the BEC to the battery wires than to use another battery to power it. One less battery to mount somewhere on the air frame.

Everyone has their opinion on this ... typically when I run a seperate lipo, I run HV servos directly off a 2S lipo pack.

That said, for both my E5s I opted for a BEC and wired them directly to the ESC battery side leads like most here. Works great! I mounted the BEC under the ESC on the bottom side of the mounting plate.

That's how I have my E7 set up.  On my E5 I'm using a Scorpion Commander V 130A SBEC ESC.

I too mounted the BEC Pro under the ESC.





Since the ESC mounting plate is angled, there is no interference with the LiPo.  Plenty of room for the main LiPo.

     Lots of good ideas here.What would be the advantage here of using A high voltage servo over a regular digital servo?I plan on using a separate Castle creations BEC wired directly into the ESC.
