HV servos more torque and higher speed.  Another advantage is that you can run them from a 2S lipo without need for a regulator.

Running Kontronik 120 with a LV servo set up coming of the internal BEC. Probably not the fastest out there but works fine for my current flying style. Scorpion BUG over 100 flight very reliable. Running 2300 on 6s 5000mah for 4-5 min. Great machine!

         Getting some good Ideas here. A question here -If I run a 6s set up  I can go with Castle Creations 120 Ice2 HV with a separate Castle Creations BEC Pro,or I could go with a Castle Creations 120 Talon.Which is the better set up?

Wow, didn't know they are making a talon 120.  It's not even on their own website, lol.  I found it on some online store sites, though, and it sounds pretty promising to me.  120A esc capable of 12S input and a 10A continuous output BEC.  If I were buying a 120A ESC right now I think I would probably give the talon a shot. It will simplify your wiring, for sure.

Have you done any searching on other forums to see if there are any reviews or posts about people's experience with it?

I have a few concerns about the Talon 120HV.

1) The BEC output voltage section is limited to 6v and 8v.  No option for 7.5v for those of us who prefer that.

2) The motor input connectors are 5.5mm.

3) No Auxiliary wire, so one would have to add an RPM sensor to use the FBL system governor.

At least this Talon ESC seems to include two power output wires for the BEC unlike the single wire used with the Talon 90

Just my 2 cents but I run an Edge 120, used to have the Ice 120 HV. On both set ups I run the castle BEC AND run that separately off of a 2S LiPo. Some say more parts to fail but I look at it as everything having it's own loop and I can trouble shoot easier personally. Plus I don't like running even high voltage servos at max voltage so the BEC allows me to control the voltage to the servos and still not drain the main power pack during flight. Just a thought.

On my E7, I run a Gryphon quasar bec. I power it off of the first 6S pack in my stick packs. I have it wired with its own ec3 connector so I can plug in just the one 6S pack and then power the FBL controller without powering up the ESC when I'm working in it.

After what curmudgeon said I think I will go with My first choice CC BEC Pro and the Castle Ice 2 HV.I can fine tune the voltage better.Next Question what servos should I get-I cant find  the recommended Futaba servos from  the manual from any of the online shops.I need a good quality digital servo at least.I can set up HV servos to work if I have to.Like to use just a 6S pack to power ESC and BEC to save weight .Thanks this forum  is helping me a lot !-Chris Blom

6S works well with the CC BEC Pro.  The BEC Pro is rated for up to 12S, but there have been isolated reports of the BEC Pro failing when exposed to such high voltages.  You also get more output current on 6S than on 12S (see pic below).

Interestingly, when powering the BEC Pro on 6S on a 12S setup, the mah consumption on the pack powering the BEC is not a whole lot.  My Whiplash consumes an average of 52mah per flight powering the MKS HBL 950/980 HV servos at 7.5v.  The E7SE consumes an average of 57mah per flight powering the Futaba BLS255HV cyclic servos and MKS HBL 980 HV tail servo at 7.5v, and E5s consumed an average of 73mah per flight powering the Futaba BLS255/256HV servos at 7.5v.  So according to those numbers, the MKS HBL 950/980 HV servos are not as power hungry as the Futaba BLS255/256HV servos.  Still, non of those servos have caused any brown-outs when powered by the BEC Pro on 6S at 7.5v.  However, not all servos are made equal.  When performing the VBar power test at the bench, I can cause a brown-out when powering the Align DS610/650 servos with the BEC Pro on 6S at 6v on my T-Rex 550.  The Align DS610/650 are coreless and known to not be very efficient, so this is not surprising.  Still, no problems in flight with those Align servos.   :)

It is also best to run the BEC Pro on 6S rather than 12S because you get more output current on 6S.

I run the Edge 120HV and a CC BEC Pro on most of mine. I do have one with a YGE 120HV and a CC BEC Pro on it though, and love the YGE too.

why would anyone need to "fine tune" the BEC voltage? I don't see the point. If you have HV servos, and they say 7.4V on them, 8V is perfectly fine. so with the talon, you have a 6V selection for low voltage servos, and an 8V selection for HV servos.....sounds perfect to me. the extra .5V is just more insurance against brown outs to me.....but to each their own I guess....

ok, I got ya. yea, I have been very open with my limited knowledge of electricity. I am not ashamed to say I know very little about how everything works together. I know that I put as much voltage to my servos as I can, in hopes it leaves enough to not allow a brownout. thus far, this has worked very well for me. but I honestly get lost when you get detailed about current draw and how increasing voltage can also increase current draw, and things like that.

I do understand that a CC BEC Pro is capable of less output on 12S than on 6S though, that makes good sense to me, but that's about it......

funny, I am the only one in my family that ISNT an electrician....lol....I am scared of electricity, I went another route with my life....guess I should have listened more growing up :)

also to clarify, I didn't not even look up the Talon specs, I wasn't referring to the talons capability to handle the current, only the aspect of having 2 voltage choices. so please don't take my statement for saying that it will handle the job, then crash due to that......
