You want ever so slight of an amount.

The paper trick is good.  Cut a small piece of paper. Put the paper between the main gear and the pinion. Push the motor in until you can't pull the paper out, but not so far it tears the paper.

Tighten the motor and pinion support down, rotate the main gear to get the paper out.  You shoudl have just a slight amount of lash.

I run mine in Tight against the Main gear. At that point hold the Motor and try to rotate the main gear. There will be "No Backlash" now that you know what it feels like, Back the motor off EEEEVVVVVEEERRR so slightly until you feel a "Hair of Backlash and Run the Screws Down (with locktite of course).. ;)

Also its always a good Idea to rotate the main gear while setting the backlash, set your backlash on the high point of the main gear, no main gear ever runs completely true, well none I've seen, doing this will avoid any binding issues, when the Delrin gear gets hot and expands.

Good luck and enjoy flying
