End of starter shaft broken off...
« on: July 27, 2014, 06:29:50 PM »
So my one way bearing/starting issues were caused by part of the hollow end of the starter shaft breaking off.  Anybody ever have that happen or what could cause that to happen?  Bearings all seem fine......

If the clutch stack isn't straight you can cause wear to the start shaft. Once you have the motor running. You should be able to stop the starter hex adaptor with your finger and the engine run. If you cant stop the hex adaptor without killing the motor then its binding.

Ok thanks, that makes sense.  I will check it when I get the new shaft and put it together.   :)

My first Synergy was an N5. The previous owner had omitted the engines shims. It kept eating shafts due to the misalignment.

Yep I verified that I have a very thin shim mounted on each side of the motor.   This bird was crashed at one point and fixed (new main shaft, bearings, etc etc.. and it is a Fantastic flying bird!  This shaft may have been something that got missed but I will check alignment.  I don't anticipate any issues  :)  The part should be here today and I will slap her back together this evening and start her up and check it like Chris says...

Well guys, my starter shaft came in yesterday (Matt and Amy have great service!) and I put her all back together and everything is perfect.  I can hold the starter hex while she is running so alignment appears to be perfect.  Hovered her a bit in the front yard and all is well.  Love this heli! :)

Oh and I also got my 96mm rails and put those on for good measure, hehe.
