Now I don't know if it is just the novelty or what, but I gotta say, I don't know why anybody would want to only fly electrics after flying the nitro.  Much more fun as far as I am concerned.  Way cooler too!  My wife said she likes the nitro better too.

My non-rc friends like my nitro helicopters better than the electrics, too. I have been flying my N7 way more than my E5 and E7, since I got it.  I don't think it's just the novelty of it being new, either. There is just something about the whole experience of nitro helicopters that I really enjoy.

All I gotta say is this N5C is rapidly making a nitro convert out of me.  I like the way the nitro feels floaty.  I guess some would say that is a lack of power, but my N5C just seems like it floats around flips and rolls whereas the E5 snaps.  I do not really know the proper terminology here, so bear with me, I am just describing the best I can.

I had a butt pucker moment today.  Did a dive and realized that the N5C has more mass than the E5, so my god she heads to the ground like a rock.  Lucky for me I was able to pull up in time to save her, and the thunk of the air/corresponding engine lug was quite epic to say the least.  No more high speed dives until I get more used to how fast she falls!

im actually going trough the same thing as you..(also finished my first galon today). and very helpful was 2 things... a) in helifreak there is nitro 101 thread by finless bob... with tim jones tuning videos... and b) smacktalk nitro 101 thread (honestly, less helpful tuning-vise, but much more helpful in general about nitro... yesterday i got my buddy who is flying nitro only to take a look at it and he  said, that unless i will start flying like tareq, engine is tuned quite ok... :)

im still monkeying around with my idle, but generally with high needle you want it rich enough so you can lean on full pitch continously and not run out of smoke (a couple full pitch circles, full pitch climbouts, etc, etc) mid needle... i have noticed that sometimes out of throttle hold engine will speen up too quickly with a LOAD of smoke, when i lean it 1-2 clicks all seems well... (i know my idle is wrong, but still)

+1 on this one. Your head speed is not allowing the motor to get on the pipe and you are likely too rich which could cause 4-stoking/surging.

Matt

A little intermittent wag can be a rich motor. If you are still breaking in the motor minor power surges can cause a slight tail wag.

Curious Cope where your needles are regarding your Floaty Comment? The N5c when Dialed in correctly reminds me of a Jack Russell "Big Dog in A Little Dogs Body"  And I will say once you go Nitro, you can't get it out of your system.
