So I have installed the 766 struts and pipes on the N7. There isnt alot of pics around for this so I thought I'd throw some up.
-
I also added a 25mm wide by 3mm thick aluminum spacer on the back to add a little rake.
-
Finished product. Even tho the original struts are higher unsprung, once they are installed they will sag until the tail hits the ground.
These 766 struts don't sag nearly as much and with the rake they keep the tail off the ground..
Personally I think these skids actually look better too as the original ones always looked as tho they belonged on a smaller heli.. imo.
-
Thats look really cool! Better than de original ones. I have to change mine too on the n7!
Can u make a photo from the side! Wanna see how high is your tail rotor from the ground.
Cheers chris
-
Working away atm but from memory the tail is between 5mm and 10mm off the deck.
-
U have to turn the skids backwards 😉 i love it. For me looks much better with the bigger skids! Love this machine. Yesterday i took my first inverted autos with the 766 and the n7. After flip it over the ground u got much of power left in the rotor. Here a pic from my N7.
Greetings from switzerland!!

The 766 skids look good on there, I'm going to have to do this to my N7. Why isn't there just an N7 updated skid set that is beefier and has built in rake? Seems like its a pretty widely known issue. I think it looks pretty janky with a stack of washers or similar.

molds are not cheap to make, and the 766 skids fit perfectly fine. by the way, my n7 skids dont, and never have, sagged. not sure why some peoples do.
-
I recently did this to mine as well. But I simply used two of the thicker blade shims we never use but all have a ton of laying around :)
I also like the look of them backwards :)
-
Chris, can you show a picture of your use of the washers?
thanks,
rick

Yeah and neither is $900.00 for the kit. You must have the magic set that doesn't because I haven't seen one and we have quite a few at the field.

Good idea Chris. I'll try that, I have a bunch of those too haha.

Sweet, but I stole the idea from Rob Cherry LOL Works well and looks nice too.

I probably do have the magic set then. bc mine really don't sag...

Mike goes through landing gear too fast for it to sag. ;p
-
I haven't had problems with sagging gear either. I also use the E7 gear on my old school N9 which is just a tad heavier than the N7. No problems there either.
Danny is correct. Mike's probably not a good example...lol
Just kidding Mike:-)

wow looks like the 3 sets I've had and the countless N7s I've checked out in person all have been just bum luck. Thanks for clearing that up.

Convince? The only thing you've been able to convince me of is that its a Synergy slappyfest in here and you just don't want to believe there's anything wrong with you're precious Synergy. Well wake up guy it's one of the biggest gripes about the N7. So you are either in denial or are just that out of touch. I know it's hard with 100+ reps but try talking with people who own the N7 that aren't on the "team". Oh, and keep telling yourself the manual is digital so it can be updated easily. How many updates have wee seen on the N7 manual? Funny that Chris and Rob both run some spacers in the rear skid support. They must be imagining it too.
Thanks for your help Chris as always. I appreciate you going above and beyond with my past issues.
Later. Pointless forum.

Deleted. Not worth it....

Slappyfest... That's awesome.

Do you happen to leave your heli in the sun all day? I find that simply avoiding leaving them in direct sunlight helps prolong the life. I have a set of skids that are several years old that don't sag and I have had some that were only 6 months old that did.
Rob and Chris use the shims because they use the 766 skids. When they use the standard skids they don't use the shims.
-
I wasn't trying to convince anyone. Just reporting my years of experience with the synergy line.
Heat could very well be the variable here. Mine never stay out in direct sunlight for very long. I had faded canopies and booms.
I will be more than happy to post a pic of my N9 with the E7 gear that has been in place for over 2 years. Don't have an N7 at the moment.
Cheers

I'll be the first to admit I've had issues with the skids sagging. That's why I run the 766 skids. Spacers are needed on the 766 skids as they are lower to the ground and make the tail even more prone to touching.
-
It could have something to do with how people store them, too. If you hang your helis tail down on a rail by the back of the skids then they probably won't sag. Most of mine rest on their skids either on a bench or on the floor and they do have a tendency to sag over time. Keeping rubber bands around the back of the skids at home helps.
-
Good point Danny. I hang mine on the wall like you said. When I started doing that it did make a difference.
The best thing I have found to hang them on the wall is a closet organizer shelf from Home Depot. They are cheap and easy to put up. Just put the shelf part against the wall with the front lip sticking out and hang them off that. I have the same thing in my enclosed trailer and it works perfectly.

I just think it looks awesome. I've swapped out skids on both my e5ss and E7.

Thanks Chris. Adding the blade washers is a very simple solution to adding rake. Glad others are making use of this mod. Looking forward to an updated part from Synergy.
-
well, I guess I am just lucky then.
-
I have never had an issue with any of my N7's

One of the biggest reasons for using the current N7 skids is weight savings. One of the main reasons the N7 performs the way it does is because the N7 is very light. If you don't mind the added weight of the 766 skids then the change might be for you. I started running the 766 skids with tail blade washers on my N7 as soon as I received the very first sets of prototype 766 skids because they do look more proportional to the size of the N7. I will likely go back to stock because I do not like the added weight. In the future I will try to design a more robust skid which maintains the light weight of the current N7 skid.
Manual changes occur very often, you probably do not notice because the version number never changes. The version number does not change because the link must remain the same. With the newer 766 manual I have started placing the version number on the front page.
Thanks,
Matt Botos

Thanks for the feedback Matt.
Your products, your team and your customer support are a real asset to the industry and the synergy community are lucky to have a bloke like yourself at the helm.

Thanks for the kind words!! We love this hobby and want nothing but the best for pilots!
Thanks!

You must be referring to manuals other than the N7. I just happen to have a backup of the N7 manual from Feb. 2015 when I assembled my kit. I'd have to say it doesn't look like it was updated "very often".
Nice work on the 766 manual though. It looks great and was a great build.
