New E5 Motor/ESC
« on: October 13, 2014, 05:47:07 PM »
I'm currently building a E5 6S set-up, I want to use all my electronics from my trex550 which is like new condition. So far I need to purchase a new motor the MX730 is too wide for this build. I would like to use my talon 90 with either the scorpion 4025-1100 or a KDE600XF-1100 motor but would the ESC be to small. Has anymore used one of these setups?

I would not recommend the talon 90.  I know that on paper it could work and some have tried it in the past but you should steer away from that.  Go for the 120 Castle or even Scorpion 120 and you should be fine. Some have used YGE and Kontronik as well.

I did the same as you I used my old trex 550 servos and motor for the e5 the mx600 motor was not up for the job so got a scorpion 4025-1100 and a castle edge 100 with pro sbec. it's a good setup and flies well governed at 2350 on 6s

I have a KDE 1175 kV motor and Castle Ice2 100 amp ESC available if you're interested. Left over from my stretch 12S conversion. Very efficient and cool running setup.

i have tried the 100 amp escs several times with that setup, it just isnt enough. it really needs a 120HV, or the 130amp standard esc.

I did some flights this past weekend with the new Talon 120 and I was impressed. Temps shot from my gun showed 95-110 F on both the speed controller and motor. I performed 6 flights from just lazy eights to beating the snot out of it. I never got over 110 F. The ambient temp was 65 F.
The setup was as follows:
Scorpion 4025-1100
Castle Talon 120HV using 6 volt output to the receiver
Rail 556 and 96 blades
RJX 521HV servos on head and tail
12 tooth pinion and 4.5:1 tail upgrade
Head speeds 2100,2200
