TAIL BOOM SLIPS

(1/2) > >>

Scooterpilot:
Hi All,

Just finished building my N5C. Took her up for a maiden flight and the belt was loose. Hmm, thought Ok, I didn't adjust it properly.  So, I adjusted the boom so the belt was  not overly tight but had tension on it.  Took it up again and the tail started to act funny, like there was too much gyro gain.  So, I landed and the belt was loose.  I re-adjusted the belt again and took it up. Did fine while I was in idle up flying doing axial rolls, loops etc.,; then, I decided to some tic/tocks and the belt was lose again.  I really tighten the pinch bolts for the boom and it still slipped.  Anyone had this same problem?
I'm thinking about using some rough sand paper on the inside of the main boom clamps so the boom won't slip but before I do that I'd like to hear from you?

Kevin Feil:
Chuck,

I can Honestly say I have never had this happen on any of my N5's or N5c. onething that comes to mind is make sure there is no oil or anything on the Tail Boom or the inner circle of the Tail Boom Clamps.   Are you aligning the "frame Side" of the Tail Boom with the edge of the inner Tail boom support (nearest the Idler Pullies"?  and make damn certain the "Rear" Tail Box is where you need to make your adjustments, Keep in mind You may already know all this and Not to Affend You with the Questions as well as Suggestions I give, I just want to make sure we cover all Bases if you catch My drift.. ;)  When you Tighten this Boom up can you Physically Move it?? Twisting it?? jsut trying to get some ideas, You shouldn't have to put sand paper or anything of that nature in this Heli!!!! Let me know and We can see if we can work through this..  In the Mean Time, Happy Holidays and I look forward to Hearing from you!!!

Also another thing to add is I want to make sure you are actually setting the Belt tension correctly. I am going to PM you my Cell phone Number. Give me a Call and lets run through it together and I'll give you some Tips on setting it perfectly.
