High pitch noise
« on: July 08, 2019, 02:51:10 PM »
I have about 10 flights on my 516 and I have a high pitch noise when I'm flying it.   I've checked motor bearings, pinion mesh, and lubricated the washer between the bearing and the bottom of the main gear per suggestions from members of the Heli Hangout.  It's still there.   I also felt the various bearings in the tail to see if any were hot.  None seemed to be.

Any ideas or places I should be looking?   Thanks

Does the noise fade away when the head ramps down, or does it disappear suddenly when you hit throttle hold?  Does it change pitch at all during flight?

How about your gear train, what motor, ESC, pinion and headspeed are you running?

Has the noise only started appearing now, or like it from the first flight?

Also check the belt tensioner and pulleys.

It does change with the head speed.   I don't think it stopped when I hit throttle hold, but I can't say for sure.  I'll have to listen next time.

Xnova 4020-1350, Scorpion Tribunus 6S-120, stock 18T pinion, 2400 & 2600

I bought it used.  The noise has been there since day 1 for me.  I did tear it down and check all the bearings.  I guess I missed something though.

I'll also take a look at the belt tensioner.   I'm not sure how closely I looked at that at the tear down.

Check all the bearings on the tensioner assembly.

It was not the tail belt tensioner.  I replaced every bearing and nothing changed.   I bought a new bearing for the motor counter bearing because the noise does stop when I hit throttle hold.   I think my problem might be that every time I try and tighten down the motor with the correct gear mesh, the bolts that you tighten in the motor cause the motor to rotate a little bit changing my setting of the mesh.   This is causing the motor shaft to not be perfectly lined up with the counter bearing and causing that bearing to make noise.   I haven't ever had this much problem setting mesh before.  Is there a trick to it?   I apologize, I've built lot's of helis, but they were either belt or had the whole motor tray slide back and forth so this is new to me.  I don't see anything in the manual to help either.

Should I try and get the motor correct first then put the counterbearing block in?   Then it's lined up no matter what.

I wish I was going to IRChA this week, so I could stop by and learn from the experts.

Thank you

i just build my synergy 516 and i followed the manual direction that the belt tensioner needs to be 90 degrees to the frame. but when i spool the heli, the belt began squeaking and after 3 minutes the belt tensioner got very hot. the belt tensioner temp was 118 degrees and the belt shedding powder. when i spin the Rotor blade, it was stiff, it did not even make one complete 360 degrees rotation. but, once i gave the belt some slack, the tensioner is not 90 degrees, every thing is fine, the head spins freely and the tensioner temp went down. i need help.
