Anybody using an RX pack?

All the pictures I've seen of completed E6/7s appear to be using a BEC.  My CC BEC Pro is still at Castle for a service advisory (it was a V1 and they've had it for 8 weeks now, grrrrr...).  I happen to have a couple of different ~2100mAh LiPo receiver packs, but I'll be darned if I can spot a place on the Synergy photos to stick it...

 I am using a seperate Rx Lipo on my E6 as i am using the CC ICE2 120HV which requires the use of an external BEC or Rx power system.

I am using a Flighttech 8A requlator with a failsafe switch and i have it set to 6v, the regulator has two power input leads and two power output leads with a charging connector and a failsafe switch. To power the receiver i am using an Optipower 2S Rx lipo.

I have my Rx lipo strapped to the top of my main power system lipos so i can remove it for charging with the main lipos but i did consider strapping it under the ESC plate out of the way but this would make it awkward for charging so i elected to leave it strapped to the top of my main lipos.

I will get a picture an post it later to show where i have these situated.

I use a separate RX battery as well. I use a small 1300Mah pack as to not throw off CG or add much weight. It straps on to the main 10s stick and plugs directly into the reciever to power a HV setup! I made an adapter from a deans plug to a standard servo style plug...battery plugging into the deans and the other end straight into the receiver to keep it simple.

I personally do NOT trust BECs on large helicopters (over 500 size) and would recommend running a separate RX battery!

Thanks for the input, Mitch.  I feel the same way, but the equipment I have for whatever 700 size machine I choose is on the heavy/beefy side of things (4525-520LE motor, 5300mAh packs, CC ICE 160HV).  Going the BEC route would save some weight...

Have you had any issues running a single servo connector for the RX supply voltage?  Everything I'm reading online (RR, HF boards, etc.) talks about the wimpy 5A max current for a single servo connector not being enough for an HV setup.  I have a full set of HV Torq servos for this build and was planning on using a Skookum Power Bus...

I haven't had any issue. I run the same single wire setup on my N5c, 700N, and E6! I run the Futaba 156HV servos which have a low amp draw though...so with monster servos such as the outrage ones a second wire to the RX would probably be a good idea! It would be easy to add a second set of wires to the deans-reciever plug setup I use...just solder 2 receiver style plugs onto the deans instead of only one! That will give you 2 positive and 2 negative wires coming off the deans to 2 receiver plugs!

If you do decided to go with the BEC make sure you get a good one that won't catch fire!

I use a little buffer eneloop pack of 800mah but this is with the jive so I use that internall BEC.

Interesting! How do you actually set it up? I have a jive and this seems like a good insurance in the case of there's something wrong with the esc/bec.
