Had the worst time assembling ever
« on: December 15, 2013, 01:01:15 PM »
I really have to say this is the worst experience i ever have in assembling a heli. Having to unscrew everything to put them back together was a pain. Then all the non standard sized links makes it worst, i have to go out and buy a new ball link sizer and pliers. It was near impossible for me to take the tail grips off so that i can lube the thrust bearings. I tried to heat the grips but the bearings were stuck on the tail hub. I eventually got them out by using a lot of force. To then top it off, when i tried to snap the tail pitch link back together, one of them broke.

So i am looking to contact Matt if he can send me a replacement tail pitch link as goodwill but no email is available. So hoping someone from the company read this and help out. As of now i am really disappointed with this heli.

Sorry you had a rough time.  It was only the 3rd helicopter I had assembled at the time and I didn't have any problems whatsoever.  Probably because I watched Chris Sexton's build videos several times before I got started.  Hope you at least enjoy flying it soon.

I am not sure what helis and how many you have previously assembled.  A Synergy is a different animal in that the parts are machined to very tight tolerances. Unlike some other dinosaur helis parts fit is as tight as will allow. They do require some skill and knowledge to assemble.

There are numerous posts both here and elsewhere in regards to the size of the links. The purchase of a botosizer is not mandatory but will make life easier.
Did you size the tail links before reinstalling?  Also what link plier did you use? The plier must fit the links.  If not they can be damaged by the plier. A standard plier can be modified to work or fblrotors.com sell a set specifically for Synergy.

There is also a tip section for easy on this forum that will help with your Synergy builds in the future.

Matt can be reached at matt@mattbotos.com.

Or you can PM me and I will be more than happy to send you another set of tail pitch links.

If you have any other questions please come to this forum and ask away. We are here to help!

Cheers
Alan

I have assemble over a dozen heli's from many different manufacturers - miniature aircraft, hirobo, thunder tiger, align, outrage, sab, and avant off the top of my head.

The part I do not like is to unscrew everything to rescrew them back in, it is tedious. Then the tail grips were not due to tight tolerance, whoever put it together in the factory had some Loctite in the bearing, gluing it to the tail hub. Heating it did not help much, I had to punch it out.

I will send you a PM with my info and I appreciate you taking care of this. I just look forward to flying it as it should be a much more pleasant experience.

The reason Matt does this is to ensure no parts are missing and to aid in the use of the correct type and size of fastener for each assembly step.

Not having to sort through bags of screws is to me an advantage not a detriment. I also like knowing what a particular sub assembly should look like prior to the build without having to necessarily review the manual.  One day we may have manuals is 3D :-)

Sorry you had such a Stressfull build, Alan pretty much summed it up regarding the reasons why the different components are assembled with the attaching hardware installed. It really helps with part familiarity. I as well have built all the manufactors you stated and also find it to be an advantage when assembling, knowing your a seasoned builder you can relate I'm sure when someone less experienced builds this machine or all of our machines for that matter, it really helps them Identify the Correct hardware and engrains that in there Minds Eye which fasteners are what and were they go. As you work through this build and build more Synergys you will see the continuity between the other models. Before you know it you will be building these with your eyes closed. Hell with your experience you probably already are. Enjoy your E5, your in the right place for help and support, And welcome to the Family...

I liked go everything was pre - assembled and then I knew where each screw went once I cleaned and loctite.  You will forget all of this when you fly it on a daily basis!
