E5 boom & TT length?
« on: January 06, 2014, 06:42:19 PM »
Seems my E5 TT and boom length are incorrect.
Does anyone know how long the boom and TT are supposed to be?
My TT is 8mm longer than the boom?
Didn't see the specs in the manual.

Both of my E5's came with booms measuring approximately 640mm long.  The TT's measured 632.5mm long.

Assuming you fix the boom flush with the front boom clamp, and insert the boom all the way into the tail case, these were my findings:

1) With the tail transmission all the way forward, I needed the TT to be 8mm shorter than the boom for the TT ends to fit tight on both ends.  So I needed to cut the TT 0.5mm shorter to 632mm.

2) To minimize unwanted vibrations, it is often recommended that TT don't fit tightly on both ends.  My guess is that this could cause bowing of the TT.  So, I cut the TT an additional 2mm to 3mm shorter to make the TT between 10mm to 11mm shorter than the boom.

3) On the E5 with with the 640mm boom, the I cut the TT down to 630mm (10mm shorter than the boom).  I have the E5 set up with the 4.0:1 transmission all the way forward.

4) On the E5s, I cut the E6 boom down to 700mm.  Since I am using the 4.5:1 transmission all the way aft, I cut the E6 TT 11mm shorter, so 689mm.

5) The TT ends have 15mm long flat contact spots, so they are long enough to allow for error in cutting the TT too short relative to the boom.

E5 boom & TT length?

Ok so my
TT is measuring 633ish. (Sounds correct)
Boom is 625ish (to short)
Kinda bumbed that these specs are not published. Can we add them to the manual?
This new E5 kit came with a boom that had to small of a diameter so I matched it up with an E6 boom and made a new one that is now to short also. Now it's obvious that some how my kit had the wrong boom in it?
Looks like I need to order the correct boom.
Wondering if it got switched at the vendor or in manufacturing?
Looked it up in the boom chart. Looks like its possibly an Align 600 boom PN HN6097, 21.5mm OD, 625mm long, . Think it was swapped on accident at the vendor.

BTW, the Synergy booms I have tried (E5, E6, E7, E7SE) all have 22mm OD.

Its weird that 21.5mm in diameter would be that far off. The clamps totally bottom at this diameter.

Thanks for you help.

Barry,

I think you are right. Sounds like the hobby shop where you purchased the kit may opened your kit for some reason or another.

Send me an email with your address and I will send you the correct boom. Also let me know who you purchased from so we can have a talk.   8)

Thanks,

Matt

just thought I would add my opinion …
on my build I found that as I pushed the tail box all the way on the boom it pushed the TT up and moved the front bevel gear forwards so the mesh was no longer smooth.
I think the best way is to pull the tail box out about 1-2mm after it is fully pushed in so the TT is not under pressure, do the same with the boom end and this should solve your problem.

I always had to do this with all my TT shafted helis rather than cutting the TT shaft down.

it does sound like you have the wrong boom tube.
Chris.

Agreed, I like to make sure it's not over loaded also.
Didn't cut down the TT, the boom was not the correct part. Matt confirmed that 640mm is the correct length. It was to small for this boom clamps to work, to short at 625mm and no way to get the TT bearings inside the smaller tube diameter.
Very glad I did some research before almost cutting the TT down to short,

Thanks
Barry
