Attention Deficit Disorder
« on: October 21, 2014, 08:39:22 PM »
I must have it! Even flying my beautiful N5cTT I have trouble remaining focused. Happened today as a matter of fact. I was on my third tank and not really working on anything in particular when I decided to do a few back flips out a ways just over the tall grass. I noticed just how fluid and smooth this helicopter looked rolling from right to left as if she were an olympic gymnast in the gold medal hunt! I thought to myself now how cool would that be  doing the exact same thing only coming up the hill our runway sits on right down the middle of the runway and LOW, REALLY LOW. AWESOME is the only word that came to mind so I quickly ran her back to the end of the runway and began to do back flips with very little room between my baby and terra firma. Now this is where ADD kicks in. The heli looks so cool and everything was perfect. Very light wind, the scent of nitro hanging around the entire field from my previous two flights, the transparency of the rail 606's at 2100rpm and the beauty of the canopy sparkling from the setting sun over my shoulder. Thats literally what was going through my mind at that moment.

What WASN'T going through my mind was moving the collective properly for each flip. Next thing you know the tail touches just enough to wreak complete and total havoc on the entire scene. It was like when Jason jumps out from under the bed with a knife three feet long intending on impaling you with it in Friday the 13th! And just like that, my beautiful helicopter was turned into a ball of twisted metal and carbon fiber. MY AUTO ROTATION GEAR WAS ACTUALLY BROKEN IN HALF! My fuel tank was ejected, Main gear stripped and on and on and on.

But, I gotta say, for a few moments there it was one of the most beautiful scenes in the world!
Hope is not a strategy!

Jay,
We all have been there in some shape or form! But for me I look at it as glass half full also, you are venturing out of your comfort zone that so many remain in, and trying certain moves that you normally wouldn't especially that low to the ground.. That's a Positive crash in my book. Hate that you tore up the N5c, but at least your pushing yourself. Remember this, the more you get comfortable flying Low, and I mean Low , you will actually prefer that then flying higher. Myself am so accustomed to flying low and dragging blades, that I litteraly get a little weird feeling flying above 4 ft. It's wierd as hell and I can't explain it. I guess I finally accepted that in order to progress within this hobby you can't be worried about crashing. Shits going to happen no doubt, might as well enjoy it "Like You Did" before it does. Good luck with the rebuild..
