Title: Set-ups
Post by: Greg Jackson on July 31, 2015, 11:01:34 AM
I'm sure most of you are already dreaming about building and flying this exciting model.  List your anticipated setups here, maybe it will help others get ideas.  I'll post mine soon.

Will run a 766 and a 806.

Both with Scorpion motor, and maybe also ESC
Rail blades,
V-Bar NEO
Servos, still thinking about it,
12s or 14s, I'll decide once I see Matt fly his setup at IRCHA.

So far I'm leaning towards 766, but still considering 716

Scorpion Ultimate 4525-520 Ultimate
BK 7002HV cyclic
BK 7006 tail
MSH Brain
Castle Edge 160
Rail blades
Boom cover most likely

for me the draw of a +720 size model is if you want you can fly it for 10-18 mins on a pack.
(if that is what your going for)
guessing by the name the 766 blades will be optimal
i would have to build it and see what weight is needed to balance the heli before picking packs
i like the black semi gloss boom not so much the cover but i have to see it to deside. I cant wait for the vids from ircha

Hoping this setup will work..

setup as 766
14s
YGE 160
MSH Brain
Scorpion 5035-380kv
Servo's -- up for debate.. got some align BL700H.. that may go in initialy.. still need a tail servo

slowly gathering the parts...

I'm gradually purchasing stuff and only robbing one component from my E7, the KDE 700XF 495Kv motor and reinstalling the Hacker Turnado on it so my set up will be:

766 main blades
12S (OptiPower)
CGY750
Futaba R7003SB receiver
KDE 700XF 495Kv 8P
Castle Edge HVF 160
Outrage Torq BL 9280 cyclic
Outrage Torq BL 9288 tail
2S LiPo receiver pack

I am planning on hanging on to my E7, may turn it into a night machine. As for why I want a larger heli, because it's another awesome Synergy machine, need there be any other reason, haha?

Anyone thought about running the Scorpion 4530 motor?

Another option. The new Tarek edition XNova 50xx series or the Xnova 4535.

Hey Alan, STILL deciding on the Mordred or Night Hero canopy for my E5.  Just hoping it's visible on cloudy days. Hope you decide to keep going with the store!

The store is up and running.  Not going anywhere.  Had a pep talk from a couple of customers at IRCHA which helped.  Also  looking at vendors other than Fusuno.  All is good!

Cheers

+1. I really wanted to convince you to keep going, but didn't want to stick my nose in your business.  So that means I can start looking at a custom canopy!

I was read'n around on the forum and saw a post by Rodney stating he buys the E7 booms and is able to use them on any of his birds that is in need, cutting appropriately depending on the bird to the correct length... All booms are the same diameter. I think that's a great idea especially if  one can salvage say a busted E7 boom and use it on an E5... Will the 766 have the same diameter as the rest of the Synergy fleet?

Yup, I'm with you. I'm pretty sure 766 will be my "permanent" setup, but definitely going to have to try it out with 806... just 'cuz. I'll likely buy the 806 boom and blades along with the kit and have it staged up for when I'm feeling saucey ;)

Only a couple of people know this I imagine, but will you have to change motors to run 806 blades? Hopefully Matt or the Factory guys can chime in.

I shouldn't have to. With 520kv and the 12t pinion it should be pretty close to the RPM range I'd want to run with 806. The XTS 4535 is one hell of a powerhouse. Even if I have to run at lower PWM the Kosmik will be happy.

Post by: Chris Sexton on August 27, 2015, 04:59:37 AM
The 806s were tested with a 4525-520. So no you won't have to. That said that's a lot of blade for that motor and the power won't suit everyone's flight style.  Some will want cracked out motors and some will appreciate the power delivery of the 12s motors.

That's true, Matt liked it with the 806 blades. Plus, I'm sure the videos he shot with the 766 blades had the Ultimate motor.  I plan to run the 766 size, but every now and then I have thoughts of trying it on 716. With the longer blade grips even 716s will pop well according to Cherry. Nice to know I won't have to change motors, just boom, etc.

I'm curious how dropping to a 450kv & maybe going up in pinion would work w 12s.... I'm not the guy to crunch numbers on this stuff... But I had that thought pop in my head... What would that do for flight times & power for the duration of the flight?
Title: Re: Set-ups
Post by: Danny Dugger on August 29, 2015, 01:25:28 PM
Looks like the biggest pinion (15T) would allow you to get maybe 1750 to neighborhood of 1800 RPM on 12s (with headroom for the governor on a Kosmik). Flight time will depend on how hard and at what headspeed you fly. Bigger pinions also require a little more grunt from the motor to turn the rotor.
Title: Re: Set-ups
Post by: Josh Moen on August 29, 2015, 04:23:29 PM
12s will run all of the sizes but as you go up in blade size it will stress the power system more. The 766 on 12s will weigh in a bit less than the 14s setups but I'd rather have a touch more weight and a system that runs cooler than light weight and less flight time/hotter electronics.

For everybodys info, the 766 uses a 139t main gear and the currently available pinions. This gives you the ratios of: 11:58-12t, 10:69-13t, 9:92-14t, 9:26-15t. On 12s with a 450kV motor you'd get a theoretical max head speed of 1,841 RPM with the 12t, 1,995 RPM with the 13t, 2,150 RPM with the 14t and 2,303 RPM with the 15t. I figured this conservatively at 3.95v per cell. So if you're considering a 450kV motor I'd probably opt for a 13t pinion. That should give you enough overhead to keep ESCs for getting angry! ;D And like Danny posted, flight time will solely depend on head speed and type of flying.

I personally will be running a pair of 766s with identical setups but one of them will be stretched to an 806.
Motor: Xnova 4535-460
ESC: YGE 160HV
FBL: Futaba CGY750
Cyclic: Futaba 9352HV
Tail: Futaba BLS276SV
766 & 806 Rail main blades
116 Rail tail blades

I hope this helps and as usual don't hesitate to ask questions, I'll answer what I can.

Great info Josh, thanks!  Looks like a lot of people will run 766 or 806 blades, I might initially start with 716 Rails so I can give feedback on that size.

If I go 14S, I think I'll try that new Hobbywing 160A ESC.  I've had really good luck with every Hobbywing ESC that I've ever used.

If I were to get the 766 (be awhile if I do, haven't even maiden'd E7SE.. Wifey will kill me if she see me building another anytime soon) I don't know if I'd want 766 or 806 blades... Either has got to be a BIG bird... I know I'm kinda new in the hobby, but I am having trouble wrapping my head around that much blade (766 or 806) running off 12s. I'm am sure Matt & the team have done their homework and tested the crap outta the 766 and it is fine on 12s.... Just can't get my brain to accept it I guess... I wanna see this thing in the flesh.. Hopefully I'll get my fill at Heli Extravaganza.
Title: Re: Set-ups
Post by: Danny Dugger on August 30, 2015, 12:44:03 AM
FWIW I based my numbers on what I've found to get in the real world vs Mr. Mel's headspeed calculator at 80%-85% throttle using the Kosmik or equivalent PWM on the Jive. His calculator estimate has been high by 170-207 RPM on all of my setups in this range and I've never achieved his "max" RPM. Your mileage may vary and different brand speed controllers probably have different headroom requirements for the governor. :) Just wanted to put that out there in case you're wondering why Josh and my numbers are so different. Thanks for chiming in Josh as I can't speak for the Castle crowd and that probably makes me a minority! Lol

Not in the minority Danny... I am with you on the Kontronik ESC's! My first Kosmik 200 was number 300 manufactured I think.

I know the Kontronik products are highly regarded.. I'd like to try one... Might look for a used one maybe in the future... Or save for a new.. Pretty expensive ESCs... My son just started his 2nd yr at college... He is suck'n up my heli fund as fast as I can stock it! Lol

I've upgraded the E7SE with intent to move everything to the 766. I'll be using:

KDE 700XF-455 motor- this thing is a stump puller!
Scorpion Commander 160amp OPTO ESC
Western Robotics BEC
BK brushless servos
VBar Neo w/VControl
Thunder Power 14s 4400mah Lightning

I plan on running 766mm blades. This setup on the E7SE with 716 Rails is crazy.

I'll be running:

Castle Vertigo 700 (4540-490)
Castle Edge 160HVf
Castle BEC Pro
MKS X8 servos
VBar NEO
VBar Mili-amp sensor
Rail blades
OptiGuard and BEC Guards

The first one will be a 766 and eventuallly there'll be an 806 with the same setup (Castle lists the actual kv on their motors - one of mine is actually a 450 kv so that'll go in an 806).  Once I get a 766 up and running, the E7SE will go back into Speed mode and the 766 will become my go-to heli.
Title: Re: Set-ups
Post by: cml001 on November 11, 2015, 05:27:07 PM
Think I figured it out... I'm gonna pull the CC 160 & KDE 505 off the E7SE to put on the 766.. I'll replace those with a CC 120 & KDE 535.. Should lite'n her up a bit.. Then the 766 should look as follows:

KDE 505kv w 12T pinion
CC 160
MKS 960 cyclic / 990 tail
VBar Neo (be the first time in tried VBar)
766 mains / 116 tail
RX pack as usual..

Should do the trick..??? Wish Castle made a 14S ESC.. Just in case one wanted to go up...

Lol.. Awesome.. Yeah I was tempted to keep the 160 in it... But everyone I see (almost everyone)uses the 120 without issue... & with the sale going on right now I decided to give it a shot w the 120. I'll keep an eye on the logs.. Worst case I sell it later & put a 160 back on it.

Optipower 12 5000mah Ultra 50C
Vbar NEO
Optipower 2S 3500mah rx pack.

Matt is the only one who has been flying the 766 and I think he has been running about 13-14 degrees.
