Title: Difference in motors scorpion vs nova 4020-1350kv
Post by: earlybird0513 on February 01, 2018, 04:46:43 PM
So the scorpion motor is hard to get. I need a motor to finish my build setup. I’m considering the nova motor. I’m running the talon 90 and stock gears. HS 2300,2500,2700. I know the poles are different scorpion has 10, nova has 8. With talon esc setup is there any big changes with the two motors. Any modification if I were to go with the nova? Just getting impatient with waiting on the scorpion motor. Don’t want to pay large fees to get directly from scorpion overseas.

I have a Scorpion with very low flight time that I would be willing to sell.  Shoot me a PM if you're interested.

It’s a Chevy/Ford thing. I prefer the cooler-running Xnova motors, but Scorpion has a good track record.

Love the way the x nova runs it's like it doesn't even heat up. I was going to drop a scorpion but I'm glad I went with x nova. But the scorpion is a good motor also.

Is it also true you don’t have to oil the nova motor? I heard they have sealed bearings.

Despite some rumors, the scorpion bearings aren't bad either. I'll replace them yearly, no oiling. I replace them with abec 5 spec, but the original bearings will run the first season before I swap them out.

agreed.
i’ve never oiled scorpion bearings and i’ve run some of their motors for years and 500+ flights.

i think the “must oil scorpion motors” requirement is a bit overblown.

Have to agree. I have run Scorpion motors for years. Never replaced a set of bearings or oiled them. Still work fine.

Maybe that's why my e-5 motor seems to lost power, only has 1700 flights, I have never oiled the bearing
