YS 91SRX Tareq and Hatori muffler
« on: November 17, 2013, 04:15:45 PM »
Hello,

Is anyone considering this set up for the N7?
How does it compare to the OS 105 with the Hatori?

Thanks,
John

A good friend of mine received his new YS Tareq edition this last week, and put a gallon of 20% through it today, followed by 1 tank of 30%. He said it is already as powerful as his YS120, confirming what all the team YS guys have all been saying!!

This sounds a great option for the N7.  I got him to weigh the YS, it was 550g and my new OS105 HZ-R is 603g ( for my American friends 19.4oz Vs 21.3oz :-) )

Can you run different nitro percentages like you can with the OS?

Correct me if I'm wrong guys...but to answer this it depends on what the manual says if calls for 15%-30% and if different shimming is required AND you will have to tune it accordingly to the percentage fuel your using. However, the biggest question is whats your flying style? This is purely an unprofessional guess but like the 105 I've heard from OS sponsored pilots that the 105 is happiest on 15% or furthermore a 15-30 blend. Meaning mix a 15% and 30% to get 22.5%. In regard to the SRX I would run higher percent for harder 3D pilots....No?

Something else to be noted...if your use to OS engines then understand that the YS engines can be one click from unhappy.  I saw a video of a guy flying the SRX, hit thr hold and after having landed it was idling high (lean) It sounded great in the air but I think the YS engines are happier being rich. An OS is much more forgiving.  I am unbiased.  This is what I have been seeing with a YS60 I have also.  The OS sings a much different tune but the in ref to the YS60 when its spot on it pulls stinking hard!!

However, I have heard the same that guys are chucking their YS120's and going SRX and to add to that its suppose to be as tunable as the reliable YS91 3DS...I can't comment from experience though! :)

SRX manual is pretty simple

FUEL AND GLOW PLUG
Fuel :Nitro   15-30%   Oil   15-25%
Glow Plug:   YS #2   Enya #3   OS #8

Thanks! I looked on the YS America website but they didn't have the SRX manual up.

I've just heard today from my mate who has this engine in a TSA, he is well pleased with the power and ease of tuning. He has just removed his YS120 to fit this. He said it is every bit as powerful, but maybe the 120 has just a tad more torque, but he's only put nearly 2 gallons through it, so it's bound to get better as it get more tune.

As with all YS engines, the SRX has a very short shaft on the throttle barrel which makes the angle of the throttle linkage quite acute and prone to binding on the servo arm.

What are you guys who are running the SRX using as a spacer to bring the throttle arm on the carby out further to make it more level with the arm on the servo?
To get me by for the time being I've manufactured one out of some plastic (old Hitec servo horn), but I was thinking that one of the U-Channel Canopy Posts (405-101) or a Boom Support Spacer (610-121) with a tiny bit of machining would be a possible solution.

Put the ball on the inside of the servo horn and add a spacer on the ball at the carb side.

This makes for a relatively good aligment/geometry.

Thanks fellas.

I've got the ball on the inside of the servo arm like Mario suggested. My problem arises because I want to keep the servo arm the same length as the carby arm. For this to occur without the ball link hitting on the servo case I need to move the carby arm further away than moving the ball on it's own will allow.

I know I'm probably just being anal in regards to the length or the arms, but I want my governor to have as much resolution as possible.

I'll post some pics when I get everything sorted out.

Cheers
Matt
