Question to Matt about E5 frames.
« on: November 17, 2012, 03:26:01 AM »
Will there be a future plan of making G-10 frames, or the pseudo-carbon twill? I like CF don't get me wrong, but g-10 is alot cheaper and not much weaker. No worries about fuel proofing since an "e" machine. What are your thoughts?

I'm sure Matt will chime in but I wanted to mention that the carbon on the Synergy birds is VERY strong. There are a few posts around where crashes have happened, even a few on the same bird, and the frames stay completely in tact. I don't think you'll have anything to worry about with the carbon on the frame.

Hello!

I wanted to second what Brandon mentioned. My E7 has found the trees and the dirty several times. Sill on the original frames!

As for the G10. Most of the G10 frames I have seen are done by aftermarket manufactures. I know Fusuno makes G10 frames for several birds.

I don't think you will see any factory G10 frames as the carbon is better in the long run.

I've seen a few crashes with the E7 frame remaining intact, and one of them was a contender for best crash of the year !!

The E5 frame is built the same way.

Hello Jabird,

I left the G10 material due to poor performance in both flight and crash resistance. I understand the desire for a more budget helicopter, I will keep an eye out for material that is similar to carbon but more along the cost of G10.

Thanks,

Matt

All I can say is if I can't Break them in a crash "You" wont break them.. lol  I ran an e7 in on it's head wide open and turned the lower bearing block into a "V", and the frame never cracked/distorted or anything.. Matt has spent Equal amounts of time in sourcing the very best materials to better support his Designs... "If it ain't broke, Don't fix it is my opinion.. ;)

I love the look of carbon in the sun, even have it on my car!  Plus it is strong and light.

Necessary?  Will it fly without doing it? Yes.  Will it eat your wiring if you don't? Yes.  Yea brother, they need to be sanded.  15 min tops using 600 grit cloth backed paper.

Don't forget the edges of the anti-rotation bracket if your wires are going across the top.

Sand and coat with a Q-Tip or toothpick dipped in CA. That will seal the edge. I also do the to the inside of the anti-rotation bracket. It allows the bearings on the 'anti-rotation pin' to move over the edges smoothly.

Wow nice to see so many people not wrecking the frames, I have seen them up close and they are beefy.  That being said, the guy I fly with has wrecked his frames both times on his e7 but they were some very hard crashes.
