Bearings
« on: December 30, 2012, 11:27:36 AM »
I have Boto Lube coming in probably tomorrow for use as a grease on the thrust bearing race.  But I saw someone mention a while back to grease the radial bearing as well.  The manual says nothing about that but is very specific about other things.  The reason I ask is that it was not recommended to use the same oil/grease for both thrust bearing and radial, but there is a grease port on the main head.  Wouldn't the Boto lube get on the radial bearing then?  Just want confirmation, I should FINALLY get started on those parts today.

Also, I was in a hurry and forgot to pick up Medium CA yesterday, would Thick Slow Cure be ok?  Just making sure before I use it.

Technically the radial bearings are already greased from the bearing factory. Some people like to regrease them, but usually use something more specific for ball bearings like this- http://www.ronlund.com/rcheli-prod/TOOLLU/GREASE.html

Boto Lube is good for thrust bearings and the port on the blade grips should be positioned to grease the thrust bearing assembly. If it gets in the radial bearing, it won't hurt.

CA- Slow Cure is just going to take longer to cure and should have a stronger bond.

Thank you soooooo much.  Had those two worries.  I won't get a chance to even do a test flight with this until Thursday judging by the weather and when I get it build.
It seems there are a lot of Synergy people in the Southeast region so my advice to you all is take advantage of today and tomorrow and fly.  It should be rainy Tuesday and wednesday, maybe Thursday.  I'm probably going to concentrate more on building and sim time.
Working on the sim while I was gone helped tons.  Usually i spend more time flying (real), less on the sim, but I got to improve my backwards flight skills to the point it is effortless and my inverted forwards/backwards feels effortless.  Then I really worked on hurricanes, but I will say doing hurricanes on a real heli feels easier to me, but it was good to work on it on the sim because it was harder.  And finally can do inverted tail in funnels!  Now I'm getting half piro flips down.  This heli is going to be a beast so I have to make sure I can hang on for the ride you know!  But I will spend an entire month getting used to the heli before trying this stuff out.  That is what the other helicopters are for lol.

Did anyone notice if the one way had grease on it already when checking?  I wanted to start on doing loctite on the main gear but will wait until I have my Boto lube tomorrow.

You do not want to use any grease on the one way bearing. You want to use an oil only. Grease is thick and it can also attract dirt and end up ruining your one way.

So just use my triflow oil or scorpion oil on the one way right?  Should have the scorpion oil in tomorrow also.  Watching Chris' video again on the front transmission, did anyone use green loctite on the brass retainers?  I don't have any so that is why I wondered.  Not at that part yet, but if mine will not come out would it be safe to leave it be?  Going to start on the front torque tube box now.

The brass washer need to be loctited into the one way hub. Matt has said this many times. I use green bearing retainer, its better suited for the job.

Yes, Scorpion motor oil will work on the OWB, I use the TriFlow Oil Pen.

Probably. Red would work but harder to get off if you need to.

Ok great so I can use the red I have.  I went to a few stores today and did not find any of the green we are talking about. The green I saw was even stronger than the red.  So just out the red on the exterior and than should be good?

wipe some onto the brass ring and insert into the hub. DON'T USE too much that it drips into the OWB, could be fun :0
