Maiden - hugeeee tail problem
« on: June 12, 2012, 10:05:19 PM »
First tank through my new N5C, linear normal mode thr curve, hovered a bit north of mid stick, really rich Ys56

I had to hold almost full right rudder to hold the tail (Cgy 750).  As the engine gained some power and leaned out mid tank i needed a bit less to hold.

Wondering what I should check...I'm not quite 90 on the tail so I have some mechanical gain to fix, but shouldn't the 750 fly the tail in AVCS?  It felt like a really dorked up tail drift in rate mode.

not sure if I should turn the gov on next tank and get a verified head speed, I'm sure I was low.

unflyable in this state, I know that much!

What are your gain settings?
If you are running in avcs and are at least 60 it should hold.
Also what are your travel settings for the tail? They should be close to the same in both directions.
Is everything 90 degrees?
Is the gyro correcting?
Also check the tail direction I put the wrong twist in my E7 once and had the tail spinning backwards. It should be leading edge coming up into the main rotor down wash if that makes sense.

Everything is 90 except the tail's arm.  It's off and I think that's the issue.

T/r is spinning right, comp direction is correct, 80 gain.

I'm going to fix the mechanics, reset the 750's end points etc, and try again.

Got this sorted I'm pretty sure.

I remember reading the tips and tricks manual corrections and thinking 'just a bunch of part # errors'...nope...one was pointing out the manual had the grips flipped for the belted tail.  I took the tail apart, greased the thrust bearings, slapped them on backwards and thought 'why are the molds for the nuts facing out now?..oh well manual has it that way'

Explains everything.

Also went from close to 90 to exactly 90 from front back.

Tail should be sorted..I'm not usually this dumb.

Sorted the tail and put tank #2 for break in yesterday.  This thing flies EXCELLENT and looks great in the air.

CGY-750 reported max rpm seen as 2250 though  :o I think I set my throttle up wonky....

Glad you're excited. They're one hell of an awesome bird. I just did my first flips and rolls with mine last weekend and what a friggin difference between the N5c and a TRex 600.

Not sure what other people are running but I have my HS at 1600 in normal, 1800 in IU 1, and 2000 in IU2. I usually fly in IU 1 after taking off.

Sweet spot on the YS 56 on this heli is 2100 I hear.  I think I kind of oversped it in normal mode :\

I'll do 1900, 2000, 2100 and tune from there, right now I have the gov off with 0,25,50,62,100 to flatten the middle and it seemed to pick a lot of speed up unloading the motor in a pitch pump.
