Title: Fuel line plugs
Post by: Rodney Kirstine on December 16, 2013, 10:24:08 AM
Hi guys.  What kind of fuel line plugs are you all using on your vent tube and the filler line?  I've tried a couple different ones now and haven't really been super impressed with any of them.

These work well for me:

I don't use any clamps, just pinch the line with my fingers while pulling and inserting the filler plug.  With the DRS carb, fuel cannot enter the engine when it's not running so there's no need for a clamp between the filler and carb.

Did not know that! Sweet :) one less thing to have hanging off my heli!

Yea, it's a nice feature.  When I noticed Matt wasn't running any clamps I asked the question...

Hummm.. why did mine load up and hydro lock after sitting with the pressurized tank over night. Thing was really locked up and had to pull the plug before it would turn over the next morning. I assumed it was standard procedure to just release the tank pressure after the flight or is that even needed?

Cheers

Not really sure why yours hydrolocked. But it is good practice to relieve pressure after each flight.

To add more to what Darren is saying you can fuel up wile idling and that doesn't seem to bother it. Whe we were tweeking the vbar on the n5 we did 3 tanks with out shutting it down

Mine hydrolocked when I refueled it without a clamp on the line between the filter and the carb.  It didn't do it the first time I filled it but it did when I refueled after the first tank.  There was no pressure in the system because I pulled the vent plug prior to adding fuel.   :o

I think that the demand regulator is something to keep an eye on, only takes one tiny particle to make it stick open. There is a needle valve that should only open when the carb pulls a vacuum.
The manual says do not dissemble but read that somewhere that it is quite easy to do so and it was successfully restored to a fully working condition after a good clean out.
I would suggest that the work area is very clean, almost surgery like and no harsh solvents used to clean the diaphragm, obvious problem area is the valve and valve seat area.

I do the same as Darren except i do use a pinch for ease of shutting down when i am done with each flight.
