Synergy E5 Setup
« on: December 06, 2014, 05:27:45 PM »
I am getting an E5 for my major Christmas gift this year.

This is the setup I am contemplating

Motor...........Scorpion MKIII 4025-1100 (changed  from 4025-890 because of feed back )(Scorpion is out)
Motor............ KDE600XF-1100-G3         (Changed my mind again after some more research)
Pinion..........12 Tooth
ESC.............CC Edge 120HV
Servos.........BK DS7001 HV for Cyclic
          ..........BK DS7005 HV for Tail
FBL..............VBAR or SK540
BEC ............CC BEC Pro.  (Changed from Rx Battery because of feed back)
FLT Pack.......Pulse 6s 4500mah 45c

Head Speed:
normal.........2000
IU1..............2100
IU2..............2200

I have not purchased any of the electronics yet because I am looking for feedback from Ya'll.
I do want to run a lower than normal headspeed for extra flight time.
My flying style is big air cruising around the sky with loops, rolls, Stall turns with rotations
Cuban eights, etc.
This will be my second Synergy machine, joining my N7 in the hangar.

You might want to rethink the motor option. You can get half decent flight times with a 4025 1100 with. 13 tooth pinion. I am running mine at 2200 and 2250. Anything less and the Heli feels way to soft. With that low of head speed and the all up weight the disc loads will be to heavy for your type of flying.

With my set up I am at 4:15 to 4:30 with 5300 packs.

Have you thought of running a smaller flight pack to run your servos?

What blades are you thinking of using?

For blades I will be running Rail 556 mains and  Rail 96 tails.
I am looking for a softer feel to the Heli.  I want to try my hand at F3C
Competition and think a softer feel would be better for the hover maneuvers.
The flight pack is what I run on the N7 and I already have an extra one.  What would
you suggest for a RX pack.

As far as RX Pack I was thinking of the weight. The E5 is not the lightest 550 out there and you can feel the weight in the air.

As far as head speed there have been a couple of guys on this forum who have tried the lower head speeds and it would be good to hear from them.

Roger,
Running 556 blades at those head speeds probably isn't going to cut it. I am currently running mine at 2100 and 2200 and I will say that it is really soft at 2100. The setup I am running is A 4025-1100 motor with the 12 tooth pinion. I am also running the 4.5:1 tail gears to compensate for the slow head speed. The head speeds that your are wanting would be more suited to run it as a stretched boom 12s powered machine and at least swing 606mm blades. I would also recommend that you use a bec and toss the receiver batt to lose some more weight. The E5 is a little heavy and every little bit you can shave off will help.

Mark, are you running governed and if so which one?  I will abandon the Rx pack for a BEC and change to the 4025-1100 motor.

Roger,
I am running governed head speeds on the new Castle Creations Talon 120. I have been testing it out for a few weeks now, and I am pleased with its performance. It also has a 20 amp BEC built in.

I had a Talon 90 in my Goblin 500 and changed it out so for the Edge 100.  I wanted the logging feature provided by that unit.  The Talon 90 was a good unit for me and is still functional.  If I was King the Talon line would do logging.
Which governor mode do you run with your T120?

You and me both! That esc would be super with a logging addition. I am using set RPM for the Gov mode. I am right around 14 on the gain. It gives me a good hold without surging or chattering at that number.

I currently run 556 rails on a 12 cell setup on my e5.  Big air, cruising around and some mild 3D.  You can tell the heli has some weight which works great for the wind here and does not exhibit any negative tendancies.  I land at 5min with 3.8 to 3.9v per cell.  I also use a rx pack and a sk540.  Collective management is all that is needed which I learned the value of on my old g20 gasser flying it like I would my 450 or 500.

I am using a 12S setup on the E5 with 556mm configuration, with a RX pack and I have been real happy with the Optipower 850 mAh 30C packs, previously I was using a little larger 1350 mAh pack.  Optipower just came out with a 1450 mAh that I can't wait to get my hands on.  But, the 850 gives me 3 good flights with the 3rd one being around 7.5 reading on the Vbar Control, so I could push one more if I wanted to (this is with Torq servos).  Also, my 12S config is 2 2700 mAh 6S 50C Optipower packs that I heat shrunk into a stick pack.
