Thanks for the info!  So how would I request to have it hand wound?

You'd have to do it yourself or find someone to do it.
There are a few members on HeliFreak that do it. It will cost you around $150 on top of your motor/kit.
If you are interested PM me on HF, same user name and I'll give the guy's I know of who do the work.

Near as I can tell, with motors that are currently available to buy this week, you only have two choices for a 6s 550 blade ship

Scorpion HKIII-4025-1100

KDE's 600XF-1175

Are there any other choices that will work on 6s with the available gearing range? Other than the Align 550 motor... ::)

The Xera is not available right now. I know someone said they were going to offer that in 6mm shaft but even the 5mm shaft version says 'notify me' on the Xera web site. Didn't find the Kontronic in stock anywhere either and it would require a long shaft version or shaft retrofit kit also.

Quantum model are only for 12s regarding kv available.
But for 12s til 600 model, 4125-560kv seems to be a trusty budget route.... 99usd at helidirect.

Guess I will stick with Scorpion because I'm only going to run a 6S setup.  This will be my first heli larger than 450 so I will need to adjust.

Have the HK4020-1100 coming in.  Hopefully there isn't too much of a difference between this and the HKIII

Unfortunately, the 4020 series motor will not work because it has a 5mm shaft.  You need to stick with the 4025 series motor which has a 6mm shaft.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this but the HKIII 4025-1100KV motor ships with a short shaft.  The shaft will work with E5 but, just.  Also, there is no flat spot ground on the shaft to secure the pinion you have to grind it yourself.  I accomplished this using a Dremel tool and a sanding sleeve.

Gents.... Do you need to use the 3rd bearing block?  I have two pyro's that could work but the shaft is not long enough.  Flying: Mild to hard 3D and some big air moves that really seem to tax the lipo's.
