I was asked about my recent change to iKon on my N5c, more specifically how I end up tuning the GOV and Cyclic feel. I am creating a thread to discuss my iKon FBL conversion and my setup notes.
I will post my setup files as I make changes. After just 4 flights I am already up to v3 on my setup.
Started out with everything at the default gains for both the gov and the cyclic ( default 600 ). After just one flight I had to adjust the overall gov gain down a bit and I took the I gain down a bit too. The head was holding speed on in circuits but in any hard collective moves it was over speeding badly. Brought the P gain down to 40 and the I gain down two clicks. Sorry cant remember the number off hand.
Two more flights this way. The gov feels a lot better. A little over speeding at the top of a hard full collective climb out but recovers quickly and it seems much improved in circuits and basic aerobatics ( tic tocs and funnels ).
I did adjust the agility down to 85 prior to the fourth flight. Cyclic is perfect for my there and the Heli really responded well. If I hadn't ran out of time i would have easily flown a few more tonight. But life calls :)
I will post the files of my setup progression shortly. Need to get my laptop out.
One other note, on the fourth flight I started doing some full collective diving speed runs. At full clip the elevator wanted to pull up uncommanded, the pull seemed to be worse the faster I pushed it. I will be adjusting the Elevator P gain as soon as I get the helis in out of the car.
Currently there are 3 revisions to my setup, a 4th coming after I adjust the Elevator a touch.

Added a Bluetooth module to my iKon last night. Now with my Android Tablet, I can field adjust the setup without having to power down or drag out the laptop!

It does require a little pre-programming. mtuccio set mine up for me. He did a little video on the process here.

Back when I was flying mostly VBar I had an android tablet just for that purpose. A lot more convenient than the laptop. On the VBar I could leave the bluetooth adapter plugged in. What about the IKon Chris?

Yep BT is mounted to the heli :)
Now unlike Vbar, you can't get live data, meaning it won't let you spin up while the BT is in setup mode. But all you have to do is shut down the app on the tablet and the iKon initializes.

Still getting the iKon dialed in, but so far it's good. If you blind folded me and made me pick one or the other at random, I would be very happy with either.
Once I get a bit more tuning and setup experience with the iKon, it won't take as long to dial in new setups. I have done soooo many vbars, it's almost auto pilot ;)

That's the thing, I'm pretty used to Vbar but I have only done 2. But flying blindfolded would be the next greatest trick out there!!!

Is there a big difference between the new ikon and the first ones?

Only difference is the case and new polarity protected pins.

So it isn't that big of a difference then. I should be ok without the polarity protection, I don't think it has ever killed me before not having it.
