New Build Thread Lock?
« on: January 02, 2013, 02:03:52 PM »
Starting my build and have my red and blue thread lock.  I assumed that the assembled components had used thread lock but found that they were only assembled with the fasteners lightly tightened and am going back through and locking all these fasteners now.  Is this normal?

Also, would this need to be done with the main and tail spindles?  I figured that I would do this anyway but this will be a couple of days out at this time with work.

Thanx in advance!

Yeah, you should disassemble and reassemble everything. The parts are pre assembled for parts count purposes only. There is no grease on the bearings. The Rotor head spindle bolts have loctite on them for safety but the bearings are not lubricated.

I use red loctite on spindle bolts, but blue is probably enough. Just make sure you use alcohol and clean all of the machine oil off the bolts first.

Thanx!  Thought that might be the case.  I will probably go with red on anything that could come off and hurt someone or cause a crash.  I have only been flying for about two months and have my hands full without things flying off.......................

Agreed on all of Chris' points and since you mentioned your newer at flying be sure to use grease on the thrust bearings in the blade grips but only oil on the one way bearing in the main gear, do not use grease on that part.

Thanx for all the input.  I have a local Synergy Pilot that is going to help me with my setup and check the build out.  And if I buy him dinner, might be able to talk him into putting it up for the first flight...........

Looking forward to getting experience where I can enjoy it more.  I'll continue with the Blade stuff till then.

Wow, you're lucky to have help near by.  I plan to head to ATL tomorrow to hopefully get help.  Good luck on the build, finished mine last night except for the esc.
