Thoughts on Mini Vbar vs. Fullsize for the E5
« on: January 05, 2013, 05:29:18 PM »
I've almost completed collecting all the electronics I need for my E5 build and know that I want to go with a Vbar for the FBL unit, but am curious if there would be any advantage or necessity to use the full size blue line as opposed to the mini.

I have a mini Vbar on my 450 and love it.  I'm using an ICE 2, 120 with a CC BEC Pro for the E5, so I know I would have to get the "V" power supply cable if I stick with the mini, but don't have any experience with the full size Vbar or what different requirements it would have.

I'm not planning on running my E5 larger than 556 mains (for a while anyway), so does it really just come down to preference, or is there a particular reason to go with the full size over the mini?

Thanks for the info.

I have everything hooked up correctly, but not getting power to vbar.  Can anyone help me?

I use the full size V-Bar.  My choice was based on having the remote sensor as opposed to a internal sensor.  As with any FBL Unit there are a number of wires that must be connected to main V-Bar unit and where there are an abundance wires there is some chance of vibration finding its way into the unit.  By using the remote sensor I only have one wire from the sensor to FBL unit to concern myself with.  My first FBL unit was from a different manufacture and had a internal sensor.  I had a bad experience with it, though the circumstances were entirely different because it was a gasoline powered machine.  I'm sure either the full size or the mini V-Bar will work fine but, I prefer the external sensor on the full size unit.

Thanks Rich.  Makes sense.

Hopefully I'll be able to start the build in the next two weeks.  I think I will give the full size blue line a whirl.

@inner3:

I'm by no means an expert, but I believe you should have your ESC hooked up to 'RX B' and your BEC wires hooked up to 'RX C.'  If you've got two power leads coming from your BEC you will need the 'V' shaped power lead here: https://www.readyheli.com/MIK4351-Power-Supply-Cable-For-Mini-V-Bar_p_35429.html
I haven't used that particular cord before, but I believe you would simply plug your power leads into the 'V' and plug the 'V' into 'RX C.'

I'm sure someone here knows better, or you may try the Mikado forum on HF.

Yeah right now both power cables from the bec are going into the receiver.  I think rich mentioned one going into the rx and the other going into the Vbar.

Thanks!  Your sticky has been very informative and I have been keeping track as I continue to gather the necessary items.  I hope to get my kit from FBL Rotors by the end of next week.  There has been a slow, steady trickle of packages showing up at the door with all my electronics and I'm ready to get my kit built.

I'm really excited about what I've seen in the E5 and appreciate all the info you, Chris, and the others have put on these forums as it makes my build a ton easier.

Is there any Synergy representation in Italy?  I just re-enlisted for a few more years and will be moving over there this fall.  Hopefully I can help turn some more people on to the great products Synergy has when I get over there.

Hey Rich you told me to connect one bec wire to the receiver and the other to the Vbar right?  I connected both to the receiver and it didn't work so I guess I should try the other way.  But then I think something would be off with my Vbar hook up.

I'm out of my element, using a full size receiver with a V-Bar.  Any information I could give you would only be a guess.  I could figure it out if it was in front of me but, I'm going to have to defer to someone who has experience with this scenario.  I can't foresee a problem providing power to both the V-Bar and the receiver but, again this is a guess.  I would have answered your question earlier if I knew the answer.

I'm using full size V-Bar with full size Futaba receiver and I plug both wires into the receiver.

You should make sure your BEC wires are on in the right size (pos. and neg)

On the Mini Vbar you have to run the power into the RX, there aren't any extra power ports on the mini when using an external RX.

Check the polarity of the wires. I bet you have them wrong on one end or the other. The labels for signal lead can be very misleading! ON a MiniVbar, the Signal lead is DOWN Ground is up.  I think the AR8000 is the same way. But I would check.

OH and check every wire. You might be right on the RX side and wrong on the vbar side.

...curious if there would be any advantage or necessity to use the full size blue line as opposed to the mini.

My main two reasons for choosing full size VBar:
1) Vibration insensitive Silverline sensors only available for full size VBar
2) Full size VBar uses the separate sensor design.
