Tail clearance - spacer/shim?
« on: April 07, 2014, 12:04:21 PM »
Is it just me, or does anyone else's tail fin tend to  rest on the ground? If I place the heli on perfectly level ground, it's fine. But any humps or mounds (or any imperfections of just about any kind for that matter) in the ground, then the tail fin doesn't have much if any clearance on spoolup. I usually end up looking for some sort of small hump and then place the skids on the hump such that the tail boom angles upwards just a bit. I'm thinking of placing some kind of spacer or shim on the rear skid supports to raise the back end just a tad. Has anybody else noticed this and done something about it?

Yes I posted a while ago, caught the fin once or twice and twisted the boom in the clamps before I put a screw in, that was on slightly uneven ground. I compared with me E7 and indeed less clearance.
So I had some 2mm CF plate and cut 2 plates (4mm) and put under the rear skid mounts with longer screws. Clearance is now on par with my E7 and no problem since the fix.
