Tail Servo heating up
« on: June 10, 2015, 08:48:50 PM »
Are there any known problems using IKON fbl units with Futaba 276SV servo?   Any suggestion for settings for this FBL unit?     Tried to find contact info for Chris Sexton...He flies this unit.

Can you guys please hep out?

Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure I have this same servo on my E7SE, which also uses an Ikon.  I haven't felt the servo after flight, but I haven't had any problems with it.  I can't recall my settings off the top of my head, but I know  760uS sticks in my head.  Not sure the refresh rate, I want to say 560Hz, but that's a guess from memory.

Hello! You found me :)

Yeah if it's getting hot try turning the refresh down to 333. Also check that the tail servo travel limits aren't letting the slider bind against the tail case or hub.

If it's still getting hot i would contact Futaba might have a bad servo.

Well.   We have 3) different pilots, 3) different N7s, 3 different FBL controllers and 2 different type of servos.  All are getting hot.    Do you think some cooling holes in the canopy will help.   I have these Fut tail servos on all of my helis.  Not one gets hot.  I use the same fbl on all machines.   Guys at the club are scratching our heads.

Hi Raholek,

What are the linkages like? are they free and smooth? If the tail linkage system has too much friction then it may be causing the servo to work harder than normal and the result of this is that it is heating up.

If you pop the ball link off the ball at the servo and see how the whole tail control feels, you want it to be free and smooth. A Boto-Sizer is a good tool to achieve this by sizing/reaming the plastic ball links to achieve a free and smooth tail linkage setup.

Hope this helps and let us know how you go.
Cheers,
Ross
