My first Synergy... the N7 build!
« on: February 03, 2015, 01:53:41 PM »
 Hi everyone!

Today I receive my Synergy N7 heli, so I'm new to the family! ;D   I've flown a lot of other helis in the past, but this is my first Synergy heli that I will fly and OWN! So I'm looking forward to this experience! I can't wait to see what's in the box...and start building...
I love the smell of Nitro in the morning!

You are going to enjoy the N7 build.  My N7 is my first Synergy Heli and I can tell you the kit is a dream to build.  I received a E5 from Santa this past year and will be building it when I return home from Arizona in the spring.  Looking forward to that build.

Welcome to the Synergy family.

Thanks guys!:D I just arrived home and my new heli was at the door waiting for me!!! I am so stoked. Last night I began removing everything from my Team Heliproz Nitro Whiplash (the Red addition). It was a heart felt experience. As I was building my Whippy, I never thought I would be pulling the equipment out of it. :(

So the Synergy will be my special nitro heli. I can't wait to get started on it!!! I took the time to write this while the printer is printing the instruction manual. Tools at the ready, workbench cleared off, I'm good to go!

I'll drop in some pic's shortly. The sad part of all this………it's SNOWING again! Aaarrrggg! And now the printer is out of ink!!! Aaaahhh! I have refills! On with the build…

Ok, so I was building my N7 and found the cooling fan has a broken fin. Not sure what to do about it. Possibly glue it back together, or just order another fan. And, how do I upload pic's here?

Hi rcnut,

Sorry to see the fan is damaged in your kit, i would'nt recommend repairing the fan as this could possibly cause balance and vibration issues.

I would recommend that you contact your dealer or contact Matt and Amy directly and they will take care of this for you. :)

Hope this helps, let us know how you go.

Thanks Ross!

I placed an order for a replacement fan...$6! That was cheap, and I ordered some other things. All in all its good. I have a club meeting tonight, but I'm thinking of not going so I can spend some serious time building my new heli. I do need to clean the greese out of the clutch one way as I plan to test flight before winter is over! We've had some very nice 35 degree days with 0-6 mph winds and clear skies!

While I'm waiting for the replacement fan to show up, I continued building all the subassemblies. Right now, I have a bunch of parts and a stack of carbon fiber just sitting on my work bench...it doesn't look like anything, anything resembling a heli...LoL! Tonight...it will build into a heli! I'm in the process of sanding the edges on the carbon fiber. And I have all day tomorrow (Saturday) to see how far I will get!

I found this canopy for my N7 (Synergy N7-3 on RR site). Its from Sick-Canopy. I really like the color scheme!

Arrgg! Still trying to figure out how to upload pic's!!!

Good to hear your moving on with the build, you will be surprised at how quickly it comes together once you get going. A good tip for sanding the edges is to get one of those small foam sanding blocks, i use them on all my frames and it just takes a couple of passes with the foam sanding block to clean and smooth the edges.

Tip for adding attachments, if you edit your post or when you are replying to the topic you will see a small box with a + symbol in it, it will also say 'Attachments and other options. If you click the + box it will give you the options to upload pictures from your computer and if you need to upload more than one picture just click the more attachments.

Let us know how you go, and if you have any questions just give us a shout.  :)

Add some pictures as your build progresses too, it's always good to see another N7 come to life!  :)

Cheers,
Ross

Ok, I've selected a couple of pic's to display, let's see if I've figured this out! LoL!

And as Ross Lawton posted;
Quote

He was right! Once all the subassemblies were addressed (loctite) and the edges on the carbon fiber were sanded, the body built up rather quickly. It wasn't long and I was installing the servos. I started the edge sanding shortly after work on Friday, and before I knew it, it was late and I was having a difficult time keeping my eye's opened!;D So it was off to bed. I stopped at installing the second cyclic servo as the MKS servos are too tall and hit one another. After texting my buddy Mark, he made mention (as I was thinking of the same thing at the same time) to add some spacers under the mounting tabs. But at the time I was installing them and discovered the problem, I was too tired to think clearly and was thinking of buying different servos to put in. Yep, it was time for bed!

Saturday, after my morning routine, I headed to the hobby room to continue with the build. I found the spacers needed to move the two servos out by 3/16" 'ish, the thickness of the metal servo hold down plates that comes with the kit. Then I received a text from Mark wanting to go out flying!!! I said "What???" Me: "But I'm in the middle of a heli build!" Mark: "Let's go flying!" Me: "ok"… So we headed out.

Once back home, we looked at my progress on the N7. Then we noticed I was missing one boom support! :o! I have two tail control rods, but one boom support. So after church today, I stopped at my local hobby shop and bought a carbon fiber rod that's very close to the same size…enough to get me by.

Out side of that…I've noticed several areas in the build that Matt paid extra attention to. Like the length of the bolts holding the clutch to the fan hub…they are long enough to go into the hub. In the past, I've built a couple of helis that used bolts that are only long enough for 4 threads going into the hub! 4 threads maybe enough to hold it on, but it won't last long. The general rule I've been told is 1 and a 1/2 times the diameter of the bolt, will give enough threads to hold properly. Me…I like to use as many as I can short of bottoming out the hole…but that's just me.

Anyhow, it's time to build some more on my N7! I have some Spartan Vortex programming to do before installing the elevator servo!

Ok…can't post the pic's, file size is too big! Oops!
