bell crank help
« on: December 22, 2012, 12:35:40 PM »
ive hit a stumbling block with my build,,thought it was all going to smoothly lol,,i cant seem to get it fitted without the 2 bell cranks that sit togeather on the 1 side binding..even with fitting a shim between them,,the bell crank with 2 balls on that sits against the bearing in the frame is too close and its catching the frame with the thread of the balls that sticks out of the back of teh bell crank,,also the arm that sits inside the frame does this have to sit all the way over against the bearing or not as the flat spot on the shaft is quiet long alowing for a bit of movement,,the manual points out some bell crank alignment holes for set up,,how are these used
thx nic

well im beginning to think i should of picked a different heli,,ive spent 6 hours on these dam bellcranks now and i cannot get them togeather without them binding and not moving smoothly,,ive had to put a shim between the elevator bellcrank and the flanged bearing as the thread is so long on the balls it catches the frame,,i mean come on,,,i would expect this of align but i bought this higher priced kit to get away from teh cheapness of align parts and there poor quality controll but im beginning to think i may have been better off saving money and sticking with them,,1st a poorley machined mainshaft and now a set of bellcranks that wont fit,,i must say im not impressed at all

Some of the balls are a bit longer than the others when it comes to the threads they just need to be trimmed down a bit so they don't stick through the bell crank.
The elevator arm needs to be against the bearing on the inside.

Hello Nick,

I am sorry to hear you are having troubles with the bell cranks. I can assure you we will be able to sort this out quiet easily. There are many aspects to building a Synergy that may be confusing to someone that has never constructed a full CNC carbon and aluminum helicopter.

The shims should never go anywhere but on the outside of the ccpm shaft. Placing shims in between bell cranks will cause binding as you are essentially taking up more space on the shaft. The shims should only be used on the outside in order to remove excessive in/out play in the bell crank.

Start with the elevator bell crank side and finish with the opposing side.

The balls in the elevator bell crank can interfere with the frames by a few thousandths of an inch. This was kept the way it is in order to maintain the perfect CCPM geometry for the outside bell cranks. To fit this correctly, simply file or grind off a few thousandths from the threaded portions of the elevator bell crank balls. This should only take a few minutes.

The Synergy N5c is a full carbon and CNC Aluminum kit. This is much different from a kit with the majority of the parts being plastic in that cnc parts have very tight tolerances and can need shimming. Plastic parts many times are just bolted in an squished together without any regard for a good fit. I assure you that when your N5c kit is assembled correctly, you will be rewarded with excellent flight characteristics.

If you have an questions, feel free to send me a PM or an email to matt at mattbotos.com

Thanks,

Matt

well woke up this morning with a fresh head  ;D so had another go  but still no luck,,no matter what i try the two bellcranks on the 1 side just bind togeather,,for the sake of trial i havnt fitted the elevator arm and ive also taken the 2 balls off the elevator bellcrank so they are not rubbing on the frame,,so i fit the spacer and bellcrank on the 1 side and put the screw in,,pushing it all the was accross and keeping pressure on i screw the grub screw of the elevator bellcrank down onto the flat spot, all is fine here  and no latteral movement in the shaft,,now no matter how much latteral pressure i put on this shaft the elevator bellcrank still moves very freely but as soon as i fit the second of the aileron bellcranks and tighten up the screw it binds...ive even tried a shim inbetween the 2 and it still binds,,so again im still stuck

Are your bearings fully seated in the frames?

Try leaving the set screws loose and tightening the outer 3mm button heads.

Let us know.

Thanks,

Matt

This may be a very dumb question so please forgive me..but you mentioned this-- 2 balls off the elevator bellcrank so they are not rubbing on the frame---in the manual the balls arent facing the frames..are the bellcranks facing the right direction?  I may have downloaded an earlier version of the manual and be completely wrong...just caught that line your typed and thought id ask. :)  Good luck to you though! if the N5c flies better than orginal N5 your in for a treat!!
