Title: N5C TT Tail Positioning
Post by: copenhagen on December 26, 2013, 07:05:13 PM
The E5 I built said "IMPORTANT!
DO NOT SLIDE TAIL BOOM FORWARD ANY MORE
THAN FLUSH WITH FRONT BOOM CLAMP!! THIS CAN
PLACE PRESSURE ON TRANSMISSION GEAR MESH!!"

Does this also apply with my N5C TT?  I do not see it in the manual.  I also do not see a way to pin the tube on the helicopter side- just the tail side.

Yes. This applies to the N5C TT.
There should be holes in the boom supports to accommodate a 3 mm screw. I never have pinned the boom at the frame end. The two boom clamps do a good job of holding the boom in place IMHO..
If you do choose to pin the boom do it at the front boom support.

Thanks.  My main boom clamps on the frame end have no holes to accommodate pinning.

Hmmmm. It is possible that Matt eliminated those on the new TT kit.  Checking on that...

Mine doesn't have them either, Alan, and it's an original N5C kit.

I am with Alan, though, on the pinning thing and I only pin all of mine at the tail box end.

It applies on all TT Kits as well as Older Belt Kits... Flush with the most inbrd boom clamp. I have seen guys run them to deep with the belt drive N5's, first generation N5c's and E6/E7's and cut the belt before they flew the first Battery Pack or Tank of Fuel.  ;)  Also make sure you test fit the TT spline engagement to Mushroom Gear, if it is supper tight when you install the TT Tail Assy, that if you have to really push it in to engage it you can literally push the Mushroom gear of its seat.. this will surly cause binding and most certainly premature gear wear and Failure... ;)

I have 1 hole opposite the fin.  None on the frame side.

I stand corrected.  Rodney is correct. My N5C doesn't have the holes in the boom clamps. Never noticed I guess since I never use them on the E series or N7.
